From 2000 to 2007, when an LSU defense blitzed someone was getting lit up and having to pick themselves up off the ground, even if the DBs got burned someone paid a price for it.

Last year was just a disaster for any and all reasons that have been :beatdeadhorse: .

This year, it seems as though our guys that are blitzing are doing alot of reading and not much hitting. This is very concerning to me for the long run of the season.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I'm afraid it's wearing red and white and takes the field in Tuscaloosa now.

I can not add to this because some are right. The intensity is now in Tuscaloosa. It did follow Nick Saban. Our defense has that edge since he arrived. He is a good coach and I said this when he was at LSU. Sorry but.......it is what it is

last year the team was hyper-agressive, hitting people hard after they had already made a huge gain on the play, dancing around, talking shite, getting personal fouls, kicking the football, etc. like a bunch of bullshite bullies. and they sucked, they were hiding their insecurity. now they play like they are more emotionally-balanced and confident, like they are biding their time and pacing themselves for the big battles to come. the 2003 defense wasn't angry. they stopped you and went off the field. and did it again and again. they were like a pro defense. workmanlike. we will know more affter tommorrow.

i think our defense looks pretty nasty. we have been hitting guys pretty hard. look fast and athletic, just have been playing way too much in the 4th quarter of every game. coleman and alem have been lighting up qbs. woods broke out for his best game ever last week. peterson and jones start making plays.........we look like a good unit.

all of this whining will end tomorrow.

if all the aggression left with Saban then how do you explain 2005-2007?

Saban tends to play more aggressively on D than others because he can - he's a HC. Similar with Spurrier on offense at UF in the 90's. I get the impression that most coordinators (OC or DC) don't have the liberty to play that aggressively.

One of the advantages of going to an aggressive style is that it seems to make everyone a better player. An aggressive scheme with 3* players > than a passive scheme with 4-5* players.

I have no reason to expect that Chavis D is ever going to approach the dominant aggression of '03. That said, he's done a good job of generating TO's and our D can be good enough to win it all (SEC and NC - this year).

For the record TCU is doing a better job on D than Saban. Want proof? Just compare how they did against Utah last year versus how Bama did. I have no idea what style/scheme they play but TCU gets it done on D (and it's fair to assume they don't get the recruits that SEC schools do).
