Well, soccer fans are horrendously blind then. And I am a soccer fan. You have not provided much other than ad hom attacks in this thread. What he's referring to is a glaring flaw in the sport. Every sport aside from American football has significant flaws.

quote:

Some teams like to just play defense and try to score on a counter attack. This is often (but not always) a tactic employed by a team that is considered inferior to their opponent. It's part of what makes the game great. If the tactics are correct and the execution is good, you don't have to be the better team to win the game. All you have to do to win is score more goals than the other team. This is how a team like Chelsea was able to beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League final. Should they have won the game? Probably not, but they took advantage of their relatively few chances and put the ball in the net.

That's just dumb. A better team should be able to dominate a lesser opponent if a sport is designed correctly. Soccer lets underdogs steal wins way too much. Bayern was far superior to Chelsea, especially in light of the injuries and card accumulation, and should have beaten them by at least 2 goals. I love underdogs, but I much prefer a sport that demonstrates who the better team is a lot more times than not.

Damned shame too. Louisiana has enough "home grown" soccer talent for an LSU men's team to be a serious contender.

No they don't.

umm yes Louisiana does...Baton Rouge alone has enough to fill a roster. you really need to see U-High and Baton Rouge High and Catholic play, Woodlawn and Episcopal have a few studs too. I don't have any soccer players but I've seen these teams play and it ain't boring and it ain't slow.

You are clueless, the better team typically wins in soccer. (much like all sports)

it will be about as relevant as Hockey was a few years ago

when was this?

the south had several hockey teams, BR had the kingfish, Lafayette actually had a better team in something relevant for a short while. LSU had a hockey team (club sport) it has disbanded and professional hockey moved on as well.

You would have to take the top 5-7 players in Louisiana then go into Texas, MS, Alabama to get the rest. A Baton Rouge fielded team would get stomped. There is a reason all the teams you listed don't end up in the state championship.

First of all, HS soccer is a much lower level than club soccer (college programs dont even watch high school matches, they watch club event and showcases). In US club soccer, Louisiana is typically one of the worst states in the region (Region III), and Region III is typically one of the worst regions in the country. It would be cool to have an LSU mens team but most of the players would be from other states or internationals IMO.

Yeah, provided the game isn't televised.

2nd down - Injury - 3 MINUTE TIMEOUT/COMMERCIAL BREAK
3rd down - Fumble! - 3 MINUTE TIMEOUT/COMMERCIAL BREAK
1st down for other team - 1.5 run up the middle
2nd down - incomplete pass - END OF QUARTER - 3 MINUTE TIMEOUT/COMMERCIAL BREAK
3rd down - 4 yard pass
4th down - Punt - 3 MINUTE TIMEOUT/COMMERCIAL BREAK
1st down - 1.5 yard run
2nd down - 40 yard pass - TOUCHDOWN! - 3 MINUTE TIMEOUT/COMMERCIAL BREAK
Kickoff - Touchback - 3 MINUTE TIMEOUT/COMMERCIAL BREAK

I've spent WAY too many Saturday afternoons in Tiger Stadium waiting an hour and 45 minutes to see a quarter or so of action, so CBS can sell Chevys and TIAA-CREF mutual funds, and the NAPA Know How guy can sing to me.

For club teams (Select) we are not typically the worst state and our region is not bad at all it includes Texas, great teams, Bama suprisingly has good teams and Florida Which always has good Teams And the LA teams such as CSC FURY, BRSC, Mandeville, and LAfreniere (NOla) always put up a good fight

If you're citing BR high school teams as your reference point, you dont really undertand the full picture of how soccer works. See my previous post.

Respectfully, you dont know what you're talking about. Louisiana has never even had a Regional championship team. And while every now and then there is a strong team from LA, they never win the region and actually they DONT put up a good fight. Trust me on this, or feel free to research.

What's the glaring flaw you refer to? That the goals not big enough. Sorry but that's ridiculous.

What it does is give any team a chance. As has been pointed out, the best team does usually win and if they are well prepared a good team should be able to break down a team with a defensive approach.

Bayern had 43 shots vs Chelsea's 9 and they basically dominated. They lost the game because they only managed to get 7 of those shots on target. Gomez should have had a hat trick and Robben could have easily had one as well (he missed a penalty kick in regular time). They should have won the game (yes by atleast 2 goals as you say but they could have won by 5 or 6 goals) but it's nobody's fault but their own that they didn't. You have to take advantage of the changes you create.

I did , I understand what you are saying , i just do not believe its accurate, I've seen European soccer(they are way ahead) and I've seen it in California (pretty competitive) I've watched some kids in this area growing up playing soccer and they're not far off from the others, all i'm trying to say.
