When does a college QB become experienced?

So sick of the 'JJ just needs experience' line. Most college players only have a 2 year window where they get major PT. The learning curve in college has to be steep because the most experienced players leave every year. Yes, he did not RS but JJ has started 8 games and was the #1 QB and had all the reps since mid November of 2008.

So how many games do you need until the experience excuse can no longer be used?

There's a true freshman playing QB at SC. Tebow won his Heisman as a sophomore.

When was the last time a sophomore QB won the SEC? Look it up. BTW, it's going to take you awhile.

Don't think we need to have him win SEC for us.

Well Perrilloux was a sophomore and started the SEC Champ game for us, but I guess you don't count that.

David Greene 2002?

it's not only game experience but practice reps, film study, spring drills, etc. That's why it is typically best if you have a situation where a first year starter is a junior, preferably redshirt junior.

I don't think Jacorey Harris is a true freshman.

This is the SEC....
Coaches will test EACH week with different views / schemes, etc.
USC and Michigan do not see the D's we do.

ONCE he has seen most of them and can make HIS READS...only then will he be experienced.

and after 6-8 games, the other coaches will start to pick up on tendencies and habits of young QBs. This is largely the reason Lee never really improved last year, other coaches figured out what he was doing and just starting baiting him into it.. McElroy at Bama may be going through some of this as well

Perrilloux didn't go through the rigors of the entire season.

David Greene was a 3rd year sophomore. I guess I should have specified TRUE sophomore.

2007 Perriloux-soph
2002 David Greene-soph
2001 Matt Mauck - FRESHMAN
1999 Andrew Zow- soph

So 4 of the last 10 SEC champs use a sophomore or freshman QB to win.

Perrilloux started one game...
David Greene wasn't a true sophomore.
