When did the option of a running clock become an option in college football?

I know it is done all the time in high school games when it gets out of hand but never knew they were doing it in college now.

When the refs want to ho home early

There is no running clock. Coaches can mutually agree to shorten the length of remaining quarters.

I believe they agreed on something last night. The clock didn’t stop when some 1st down were made at end.

The clock no longer stops on first downs except for inside the last two minutes of each half. That rule started in 2025 I think.

It’s a rule Officials and coaches can agree to do in a blowout noncompetitive second half of a game

I believe it stops to spot the ball I mean. They didn’t stop it at all.
