If 9-4, 8-5, 10-3, is what we want we can do that with a coach half the price (Houston Nutt for example).

But hey, if mediocrity is your gig, go right ahead and be happy with 9-4, 8-5, and 10-3. Just realize you are a true negatiger, setting your sights below what LSU can achieve.

Paul Dietzel coached 7 seasons at LSU. He lost at least 4 games in 4 of those seasons, including his penultimate season of 1960. He also didn't win 9 games to balance those out, either, tolling only 16 wins during his 4 worst seasons.

Tuberville has a relatively decent reputation here on the Rant - out of 10 seasons at Auburn, he lost at least 4 games 7 times, and in fact averaged 4 losses per year for the whole time.

You want me to say that football is more than just wins and losses, sure, it is, but how many impressive looking winless teams are there? How many Saban's "26 out of 28" have been nail biters and could have gone either way? (Certainly the last two games with us and the game with Texas was much closer than the final score - it really hinged on that late sack/fumble, and that's just three games that I watched...)

So, anybody who comes on here and posts that "10-3 and 9-4 aren't good enough", are the same types of people who got us 20 years of .500 ball.

When the team looked like crap in doing it.

Or when completely idiotic clock mismanagement cost us a win we shouldn't have had but got lucky enough to get a chance to steal.

Or when a triple digit ranking on offense warrants no major changes in staff, personnel or scheme.

Or just maybe at all three of the above times, and many more.

It's not about 9-4, it's about how we got there.

This is the main reason people are bitching. If Saban would have stayed in the NFL, it would be a lot quieter around here...

Ace, I am coming to Ball, LA to kick sense into you. Surely you're the only person who lives there, so you won't be difficult to find.

No. The people who kept making excuses over and over for .500 ball are the ones that caused the problem. Archer succeeding Arnsparger and driving the program into the ground while so-called fans say, "he went 10-1-1 just a few years ago." Giving Curley fricking Hallman year after year after year after year to never have a winning record but full of excuses. DiNardo would still be coaching based on 95-97 even though the program was CLEARLY and DECIDEDLY heading downward if it were up to the excuse makers.

LSU plays a 12 game schedule now. 13 if they finish .500 for a bowl invitation. 4 of those 13 games are usually weakass cupcake OOC opponents. The other 9 games are SEC and Bowl games. LSU was 5-4 in those games this season. LSU was 4-5 in those games last season. That's reality and it's not good enough.

If you want to bloat your win total and gloat that 8-9 wins is awesome, then just schedule:

Appalachian St. (NC)
North Texas
Tulane (LA)
Troy (AL)
Washington
Louisiana-Lafayette
Louisiana Tech

Because 8 of LSU's last 17 wins have come against those piece of crap teams. And LSU struggled in a few of those as well. When LSU has faced even or close to even competition, the record is 9 win, 9 losses. That is disgusting.

Saban lost at least 3 games in 4 out of 5 years. He won more then 10 games 1 time. I'm not saying you shouldn't want more, but to expect more is unlikely given the history of LSU, and college sports in general. 9-4 is a good year, no matter how a team looks. If we were really as poorly coached and ill prepared as some are trying to make it seem, we would have been blown out by Bama, Florida, Auburn and Georgia who all have comparable talent.

It's the poor coaching, lack of player development, lack of discipline, lack of a productive offensive scheme(100 something in the nation) and lack of clock management.

This statement accurately sums up the past two seasons and projects the remaining season we have less (I did means to spell it that way) as head coach.

"Eke out wins"??? really? you serious? I'll give you MSU obviously but the other 3 games were as follows:
Washington - up 2 TD's with 30 seconds to play. Game was not in doubt in the 4th quarter

Vandy - Won by 2 TD's

ULala - Won by 4 TD's

Were these game close at one point? Sure. So is every game. Were they pretty. Not really. But by no stretch of the imagination did we "eek out wins" against those 3 teams.

Hey Les, you're 9-9 against any competition worth it's salt - that includes Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

Get to work instead of posting on a message board.

I totally agree with you. I hate these fans that think 9-4 is a disaster. We bring in top 5 recruiting classes. 9-4 is a spectacular record with that much talent. We should give Les Miles a raise. We have an 8-8 record in the SEC, but the SEC is the toughest conference there is. We beat MSU on a goal line stand, and that says something about Les Miles's character, he is a winner.
We could have won against Ole Miss, had Les Miles knew how many timeouts we had, but that was the waterboy's fault for not calling a timeout. LIGHTEN UP GUYS. Miles will right the ship, just give it 5 seasons and we will compete for the second spot in the West. We are LSU.
