re: what will CLM have to do to regain your respect?

Les won me over this year. Due to question marks at QB, he chose to let his defense and his special teams decide games and he ran a conservative offense that didn't turn the ball over much. I thought that was just what was needed. More importantly than that, he made watching LSU football fun again. I had gotten to the point where it was a struggle for me to watch the team play. Les brought back the fun.
I think if anyone deserves the credit of bringing back the fun...it's JLee. Miles would have played JJ the whole year and we would have reverted to the 1 QB system in week 3. JJ was good at times but the offenses were always inefficient, slow and confused. JL was the game manager we were waiting for. We dominated against great competition.

He needs to win it all next year. There is no excuse not to with the team we have coming back!

I remember when an LSU ticket holder of 25 years, believe his name was Tim, called the Les Miles Show after the Western Kentucky game. He asked, and I thought quite politely, for the reason why Miles didn't play Lee more. Miles said (not so politely) it is not about him (the fan) but about me (Miles). The rant basically took this fan to the woodshed. To me how Miles reacted to the fan said everything about his character and now we know the rest of the story.

He needs to stop reading press clips about himself and recruit our top LA kids to LSU and get his head out of the sand. In one game this year he loss me. Need to play a more balanced offense and play the best player not because he is a senior or your favorite. PS. I don't want to hear we won 13 crap. Yes we did but the wheels can come off very quickly.

My opinion of Miles will depend greatly on how Mettenburger does. If Mett is an all world QB next year, I will consider Miles' last 3 years of Jordan Jefferson to be a blind infactuation with mediocre player bailed out by LSU's defense.
He will never have my respect with regards to the QB situation. He blatantly favored one player over another in terms of playing time, performance criteria, and team rules.
Mettenburger's success next year will prove that Miles truly did not have an open competition at the QB position because the best man could not/did not win that competition.

He needs to keep doing what he has been doing, winning ball games, recruiting, and graduating players. 2nd highest graduation rate in SEC, behind Vandy - that is saying something.
He's our guy. Twice he chose us over alma mater. And as long as he's wearing our colors, he's our guy. Get behind him and the team to pull this rope together!

So, no other coach in Div 1 CFB has ugly wins or some bad losses - ULM vs Alabama for a start? Come one. None of those performances falls on the players? Really?

so LSU isn't allowed to have an off day or lose a game now. there's maybe 4 games on that list that are relevant

But it is his treatment of his player Lee that will leave Miles forever tainted in my point of view. I believe he was dishonest and showed poor character. I always doubted Miles' coaching abilities in terms of game planning, fundamentals, etc, but I always maintained a respect for him in that I believed he was a standup guy who treated his players well and with respect. I no longer believe this.
So, he cannot regain my respect. I no longer respect him. I think he is a fairly good coach with a strong competitiveness and amiability that makes it easy for people to like him. But I no longer think highly of him.

Lee played in the Casino Del Sol All Star Game in Tuscon, AZ and looked like a championship quarterback delivering crisp accurate passes time and again, throwing for two touchdown and no interceptions. Official stats were not given, however it appeared that Lee finished 12 of 17 for just under 200 yards.
Was Les Miles an obsessed fool, over Jefferson. Or simply not a good judge of quarterback talent. Or both?
How can we explain just how badly Les Miles handled LSU offense in the BCS wreck?
Now I am hearing that Les Miles over road most of the offensive coordinator plays. replacing the called play to his choice. If that is indeed true. I ask you, did you ever see a more poorly call offense game in you life?
His great record aside, with the talent we've seen on this team during Les' tenure, I need to understand why we didn't go unbeaten more times than this one season, and why he got stuck in stupid with JJ and let JL and Mett rot on the bench. Maybe then I can accept a swallow or two without puking.
CLM is not indispensable.

I went back to listen again to this phone call and strangely enough it is the only Les Miles Show that has been removed from the archives.

Miles never got the Michigan offer he expected after the '07 season because LLoyd Carr took it off the table. Don't know about the 2nd time.

You are demanding perfct seasons every year?
No, but what happened last Monday was inexcusable. I doubt most fans would be upset if the Tigers had lost a hard-fought, good football game.

IIRC I read on this board about two factions on the team. One was the NO crowd who supported JJ. This was stoked by JJ's family after the suspensions. The rest were in the JL camp or ambivalent. I think Miles thought he could continue to win with strong running game and D play and pretty much let certain players dictate who his QB would be. That's why he can't say anything, but it will come out eventually.

even if the real story comes out.....its not going to change your mind. you'll still find some way to blame it all on Miles.....or bash him for throwing a player under the bus.

So the Michigan athletic department is run by Lloyd Carr?
