It means he makes the #1 receiver largely a non-factor. Doesn't have to happen every single game

Saying jones got the best of him in 2008 is flat out wrong

Agreed julio went 78 yards on pass play when PP7 wasn't in there. Before that he had 28 yards reciveing.

man to man coverage, stops the assigned WR every play to the extent the QB never really tries to throw in that direction, and when he does (just to keep things honest), it is a waste of time or only useful to facilitate a once-in-blue-moon chance for a completions or because he suspects unique coverage/blitz based on his read of the D.

a shutdown corner possesses the following (typically, as their are always exceptions):
- burst/acceleration at the line of scrimmage
- very flexible hips to facilitate quick feet/body positioning, and backpeddling
- great instincts for defending/reading the play
- great speed to catch up for the rare times he makes a mistake, or when he baits the Qb into throwing, then he makes a break on the ball for an INT or pass defended
- great vision (including perepheral) and focus
- great hands
- physicality to handle the Julio Jones-type receivers

I think simon could be a great corner but being so tall I think he could get beat alot on quick passes ...needs to work on his hips being that tall....I do know that teams wont try a fade in the endzone against him though

Usually are strong, fast, physical guys who can bump and run in man coverage and takes the perfect pass to be beat.

And he also considers the ball just as much his as the intended receiver's. He wants the ball aka Tyrann Maithieu ...he'll knock the shite outta ya and take the ball. Best true freshman I've ever seen.

Peterson isn't anywhere close to the guys mentioned above. Not yet at least. Just because of all his hype people forget all the times he got burned. Bama sure as hell didn't fear him and neither did Penn St last year.

It doesn't matter who you are you get beat. WR's caught TD's on Dion, and he is the best ever.

Penn St was in the worst field ever. WR has a huge advantage on that type of field.

A shutdown corner takes his part of the field out of the equation during the game. Allows no big plays and few catches if any. He has all the tools such size, strength, quickness, good technique, freakish ability, nose for football to completely render the WR helpless and on an island all by himself.

Neither did A$M. Great potential, but he's not quite there yet

That guy from A&M had 7 catches for 83 yards 0 TD's and a long of 19. He was a non factor. We all know that 3 of those passes were perfect.

Exactly! With a shut down CB, the QB has to be perfect on every throw. It is like when a basketball team hits 10 or more 3 pointers in a game, sometimes you just can't slow that down. Even the best shut down corners get beat when the QB tosses a perfect pass but the percentages favore the QB not making a perfect throw every time.

Love your revisionist history. Two out of the three times they played each other, Julio got the best of PP7, especially this season. But hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Julio went off in 2008.

PP7 made Julio his bitch in 2009.. what.. 2-3 catches for like 15-20 yards?

Julio beat PP7 once in 2010 (TD).. outside of that Julio was a nonfactor all game long. I don't care who you are.. you can't stop high percentage passes even if you are the best of all time, especially on a defense that brought heat consistently.
