What grinds my gears...

As I was watching the LSU game last night, I couldn't help but notice how our defense played. It seemed Washington went up and down the field at will. Was Washington that much better from last year or were we just that bad? If we conitinue to play like that, Florida will crush us like they did Charleston Southern.

3rd down conversions by Washington were unbelievable. That saying we've been hearing, "3rd and Chavis" is ringing horribly in my ears at the moment! First game, new scheme but we need dramatic improvement. Even Chavis looked lost on the sidelines last night.

You are the first to mention this. Thanks

We'll just have to wait and see how the defense improves and makes adjustments for next game. We have all the talent in the world, I just feel our coaching staff doesn't utilize it like they should sometimes.

So far this looks like the defense from last year, possibly worse. What I was surprised to see was how we were unable to get pressure with our front 4. So far I'm not impressed with Chavis. You'd think with our talent you'd see some better play calling. Yet he had corners play 10 yards off the WR and the safety 15 yards, giving the TE open field up the middle.

You are correct, the D did resemble last year's D. No push up front, cept' I saw Josh Downs getting some when he was in there. Downs may be a young Dorsey or Kyle Williams-Chad Lavalais type.
But remember, I thought we looked horrible on D in '05 against Ariz.State and Tennessee the first two games. Pelini got it corrected, so it's certainly a concern, but it's early.
