Do we have red-zone issues? Do we have problems with the run game? Are we having issues throwing short passes or going vertical?
I'm curious as to whether or not anyone feels that Zach Mett is the solution to any alleged problems they can drum up.
I don't see any issues currently. I'm just wondering if anyone else does, and if they do, could they point out how a situational package for Zach would solve them.
Thanks, I'll hang up & listen.
LSU has a perfect offense. Nothing can improve on that.

I can think of 5 different players Id rather have those touches that JJ could possibly take away.
And yet that doofus Miles sees things differently. Go figure huh?

A little bit, yeah. Our ypc is under 4, which is troubling. The real problem is that we haven't had any long runs - one 22 yarder and one 26 yarder are it. I keep expecting Ware or Ford (more likely) to break one, but they haven't. At the same time, we've had great success converting 3rd and 2 or 3. So our running game has been consistent, even if it hasn't been explosive.
Really it's hard to say one way or another. By stats, our offense hasn't been great, but our offense hasn't needed to be great. With the way the D and special teams have set us up with short fields, it's not like we've had to call on Lee to throw for 460 yards to stay in a ball game. It's hard to get a bead on the offense until it's called on to win games by itself, which will hopefully never happen.

Our offense is just fine. A few missed passes, receivers dropping the ball, and the holes taking time to open for our RB's. The OL is protecting the box. Overall we have performed well. What more do you ask for? 80 point games?

First of all - the myth that Jefferson is a "running QB", or even a true "dual threat" has got to die. He is an athletic QB, who has developed enough running ability to be a threat to run.
He does not throw the deep ball as well as Lee. As has Lee, he has had lots of catchable balls dropped by our WRs. Gonzo was supposed to have fixed that and it has improved some, but our receivers still, consistently drop catchable balls.
Jefferson has made a lot of bonehead plays under pressure and, at least in Crowton's offense, had a bunch of brain cramps. However, neither he or Lee were protected very well in 2008, or really, in 2009. This caused problems neither of them could fix. When (not if) the pocket broke down, Jefferson was a little better in not taking a sack and making something out of nothing with his feet.
All of this had added up to a conclusion the QBs were bad - the old adage, the QB gets too much credit in a win and too much blame in a loss has been SUPER true in the Jefferson/Lee era.
I like all of our QBs.

Is this ever true.

I don't see any serious problems. But then again we haven't played either of the top defenses we will face yet. We have no idea what will happen in those games, including the chance of injury and needing a backup. Let the season play out. The players that are needed to win will play.

Unless you are on the team, you are just a fan. When the team wins, the team does - not you.

They - you mean Les Miles.

including the chance of injury
Probably the biggest sticking point.
This decade we've only gone through two seasons when the starting QB didn't time due to injury and one of those QBs was a 6'6'' 270 lbs manchild.

I disagree whole-heartedly re: 2009. Go back and watch the tape. JJ consistently drops 9 steps on a play intended for 7 steps. The pocket sets up perfectly, but the combination of poor footwork and him holding onto the ball means that he's in the direct path of the edge rusher & creates the protection issue ENTIRELY on his own.
You can see it over and over again.
JJ made the OL look much worse than it was. Time his snap-to-get-the-ball-out and then look at his footwork on his medium-deep drops compared to where the OL is setting the edge on the pass-pro.
JJ's way worse than you're giving him credit for, and you're underselling our OL.

That many choose to ignore. I love the way Lee has played. It's a great story, but many here are getting unreasonable with their opinions of him. His game still has area for improvement and despite what any one thinks, he can be hurt. That's how JJ became the starter in the first place. That's when it will help to have JJ.

You are just a fan. You follow the team. It's not your team and you don't have problems.
