this. If we're in the market for a new coach tell Gregg Marshall we have 1.5-2 million waiting on him and he's ours.

(1) Randy Livingston is currently working on getting his degree
(2) He has coached in the NBA developmental leagues
(3) He has playing experience in the NBA, under Jerry Sloan
(4) He knows the AAU system inside and out in Louisiana
(5) He's an LSU kid who cares about the LSU program
(6) I think he would be an amazing recruiter he would be able to tutor a point guard like Hickey and make them improve their game
(7) He is a great teacher and student of the game

1) Randy Livingston lacks a college degree precluding him from being a basketball coach at an NCAA school
2) He's never been a head college basketball coach and the position LSU is in now is not the place to cut your teeth
he got his degree last year and is entering his second year as head coach at Idaho of the NBDL...Livingston has been considered coaching material for years. And my comment was "to watch in the future", not necessarily right now.

I thought we were talking about LSU...

We have a pretty wealthy athletic program. I don't understand why we don't go and get a big name coach. Upgrade facilities. All that stuff. The fans will come if they are playing winning basketball, I've seen it myself.

Randy Livingston would be an awful hire for this program and would set us back even further than we currently are. The list should include names like Drew, Marshall, Prohm, Amaker, Smart...
if you insist on someone in the LSU family go with Kermit. Livingston is NOT the answer here.

entering his third and he was .500 or less his first two. This guy is not near ready to be the head coach at LSU. D-league is less competitive and an easier job than college. No scouting or recruiting involved. They give you who to play. I'll take a guy with some college or NBA experience over a d-leaguer any day of the week.
and not to be a dick or take anything away, but I'm not sure the college degree from Phoenix counts. I know it has to be a place that's got full accreditation

Offer Brad Stevens top 5 pay for College B ball coaches. I'd be fine with Drew as well.

the folks that give the money understand that LSU is a bandwagon program and won't take the risk. If you're not a traditional power in basketball you basically have 3 options (IMHO)...
1. Suffer through bad seasons until you get a difference maker, or 2, every 5-7 years and enjoy a couple of exciting years (LSU traditionally)
2. Get a "System" coach and compete about like the mid-majors do, consistently exciting, a few good runs, but little shot at winning it all.
3. Cheat

LSU basketball will MAKE MONEY if we are winning. The only way to consistently do that is have a great coach. LSU would be just as much of a monster in B Ball as football if the ahtletic program just made the damn commitment to that.

we need lightning in a bottle like Tennessee got with Pearl. They are not a better program than LSU. Pearl just well... wasn't on the up and up

which is why I said "in the future"...although it looks like pro assistant would be what he's shooting for next

When we got TJ I thought he had a shot at being that guy, but no. Clearly not. The shame is this team will probably be good next year, but I'm done waiting. I don't think TJ will be consistent. I don't want to have a team that "loads up" for one good year out of 4. Just pay whatever it takes to get a name or keep TJ IMO. No point in replacing him with someone that will just do the same thing.

fwiw when I said people didn't have a clue I meant ironeagle who said livingston would be a great hire when in fact, at the current moment, he'd be an awful hire. And whoever said blanton is a fricking idiot too.

no better than an 8-8 team. You have guys like Courtney, Stringer, Ludwig, and Isaac who don't belong playing in the SEC.
So then you have O'Bryant, Hamilton, Hickey, and Turner left. Turner isn't giving you what you need and hasn't for 1.5 seasons.

Do not want either of these two. Prohm is obviously having a great season but he walked into a ready made team. Amaker has failed twice on the big stage.

true but a lot of Louisiana contacts. better choice than livingston or fricking ricky blanton

ehh... Seton Hall took em to the sweet 16 I think and he was pretty average at Michigan. He'd be lowest on my list of guys. Marshall is #1

Well yeah

The Seton Hall teams at that time had crazy talent though(Eddie Griffin, Andre Barrett, Sammy Dalembert). He should have gotten way more than one tourney out of them.

I'm a Duke fan and do not want Amacker. I'd rather be the team that takes a shot with Steve Wojo from Duke then Amacker.
