Well it could have been accomplished in a way that avoided all the unnecessary attention and scrutiny that's coming with the Governor getting directly involved with personnel decisions within LSU athletics and talking about how the next football coach's contract is going to be structured.
Even if it doesn't negatively impact the coaching search I fail to see how it's beneficial in any way.

Whether or not you want to believe it, having negative national press is not great for a CFB program.
