Your are right. The poor execution at the end of the Ole Miss game last year where we attempted a pass and lost yardage was the real reason we lost that game

I've said from the start the only common denominator in our 2009 and early 2010 offensive woes is Jordan Jefferson. Even a young J.Lee put up points in 2008. It's quite obvious with Lee getting 30+ snaps that Crowton is capable of putting up 400 yard games consistently.

1. I just don't see the player development that we should be seeing with our offensive players under Crowton:
- JJ has gotton worse since his freshman year. His freshman year he threw some nice deep balls, now everything deep is overthrown.
- JL still throws the ball up for grabs too often 2 years later (though it does appear watching what opposing defenses are doing is helping him & JJ with their decision making)
- While our receivers are good at running after short completions, they all seem to be poor route runners especially on 3rd down when they run routes just short of the first down marker.
2. He is too stubborn about his offensive philosophy. He does not cater his offense to the skills of his players. It's just a constant square peg in round hole offense. LSU can do much better at the position.

I have a question then.....
In my opinion, Billy Gonzales did not leave Florida to take the same position at LSU, so my question is do you give BG the OC job or do we go out and get an established OC???
Just curious what yall think.

All of that was predicated by poor QB play. There aren't any coaches, anywhere that don't make mistakes. We could have Nick Saban, Mike Martz and Mike Shannahan on the same staff and it would not matter if you don't have good QB play. This horse has been beat over and over. 2007 we had the same system and the same offensive coordinator. Different QB = different results.

If the offensive production improves considerably win or lose then Crowton should stay. We are about to play the best defense we will have seen in Alabama. This is a good test for our offense. South Carolina in the Championship Game would be a good test too.

Crowton + JLee = Offense.
Exactly. It wouldn't matter who's calling the plays...if your QB can't get it done, the offense is screwed.

What about Crowton
yeah, poor Crowton just needs a QB.
c'mon. This is Crowton's 4th season. He has major influence on who we recruit and bring in at QB.
We have Lee who seems to be doing well when given the opportunity. It seemed to most that he would never make it after 08 but he was a freshman QB in a wide open offense. If anything, you can say Crowton was expecting too much of him. I'd go with that.

And he has *all* the influence on the development of those QBs and how to tailor the offense for them.
Sorry, this simply is not true based on information I'd bet anything on. Miles determines what QB goes in the game and when. Crowton makes suggestions but has been overridden by LM many times this year when GC wanted JL in the game. However, to see GC's offense, review tape of when JL is in the game. Put the ball in playmakers' hands using almost all of the field.
Basically, it seems as though GC's offenses have put up points and moved the ball other than when JJ has been at the QB spot. JMO.
p.s. Regardless I don't look for GC to be back next year even if Miles wanted him to stay, which I don't think is the case but that I do not know for sure. Gonzales is a toss up I believe at this point on whether he returns or not. Verdict still out on that I guess.

what's your information? This is hard to believe.

Any chance it will be Gonzales that is promoted?

My pure speculation would be no, but I have no idea at this point. Again...pure speculation

Well, I can't give up where I get it from, or not only would I not get any info anymore, trouble would find someone... if you know what I mean.
However, I will say that it has come from someone who has heard the 'conversations' between LM and GC. Crowton does call the plays and I'm told LM doesn't overrule the individual play calling too often. He does tell GC when to run or throw sometimes (not all that often unless late in game with a lead), but GC mostly calls the individual play, from what I'm told. It took alot of persuasion from GC and BG to get Lee the playing time he got vs UT. In fact, remember the WV game, Lee put his helmet on several times and was warming up in the 2nd half. GC made the call to the sideline for JL to get into the game. LM vetoed the move and put JJ in each time except for the time you did see JL in there.
All that said, I think LM is a good guy and understand he is loved by the players. It does seem there is some frustration from the offensive coaches toward Miles but I think playing Lee and allowing GC the opportunity to pass or fail on his own would solve alot of that in the short term. I still don't look for GC to be back next year regardless of what happens. But I'd not mind being proven wrong on that.
Again, I know people get flamed on here all the time for not giving up a "source". But IMO, anyone who really has one, would never announce it on a forum board. Just wouldn't make sense to me.

With the offense clicking so well when JL is in the game, are you certain now that Crowton is really the problem!!!
yes

Crowton has designed, hands down, the worst short-side read/run option in the history of CFB.
Either that or he doesn't know how to teach JJ to run it after almost two seasons, and yet continues to call it 15 times a game despite knowing JJ can't execute it.
For those reasons alone, GC needs a new address.
