Is there anybody on our def that can cover half as good as peterson?

No, Peterson was in another class. He was a better prospect than Jai or Hawkins though IMO

THink of it like this if PP was a 10 on a scale of one thru 10 and 1 was no coner at all. where would you rank the other coners. I think atleast one is higher than a five.

Peterson is way better than Janzen and it's not even close. I don't miss Janzen at all to tell the truth.

What are you more worried about the scheme or the players?

the players. We know our def back coach is legit. And besides it didn't effect peterson at all. Has to be the players.

being that we didn't even touch Locker all damn game, I don't think our DBs played that bad. The pass inter. call was utter bullcrap and we played a whole lot of soft zone.
You just can't expect the dbs to cover great all game long when you get no pressure on the QB. And when we did get pressure, Locker immediately just threw the ball away. We have GOT to get better pressure on the QB or we are going to have a long season.

And Josh Downs needs to start.

I think people under estimate how difficult short routes are to defend. They're called high percentage passes for a reason.

We "touched" Locker more than you think. Anyway, that QB had the speed and size to run, which made playing straight up man all night difficult.

I mean, do you really want four to five DBs backs turned away from the QB when he run 4.4?

We played a lot of soft zone. We also tighten up on zone coverage and played man. On two or three third and longs, we blitz and paid the price.

I say it has to do more with the pass rush than coverage.

Outside of the two big plays the big one on 3rd down on the opening drive(I didn't see the first 52 yard play) and the long 40+ yard pass right before half time, our DBs kept everything in front of them and basically made the tackles right away. Peterson just played with more intensity and Hawkins played horribly. On the one right before half, Jai was in position and just misplayed the ball, so I am not too worried.

There was pressure, but not as much as was hoped early on. Claiborne, Brooks, Taylor are all as good or better potentially than Jackson. Jackson isn't even playing corner anymore at UTenn. He's playing safety and I believe only LSU wanted him at CB, which is partly why he didn't want to come here.

I think LSU will be just fine and has as talented or better corners on the team right now. We'll be fine.

As for Cooper's DB coaching, technique and solid play can't fix a flawed scheme. Overall they played well given the scheme.

Janzen was going to be a project at CB because he was sort of a S/CB tweener (played safety in high school and was going to be asked to convert). Patrick Peterson was being touted as the best cover corner to come out of high school in 10 years. The answer is easily Peterson (or Patterson).
