If he, Cecil, wouldn't have gotten hurt at the Vanderbilt game and had the off field problems he could have been one of the best and would have taken some yards away from Kevin.
and if faulk hadn't sprained his ankle a couple weeks before, cecil never would have gotten the chance he did.

*Best career yard-per-game average (111.2 yards per game)*
that's just rediculous....

All these votes for Cecil Collins are fricking laughable. He was good but with such a small sample size there's no way in hell I could say he's the best running back ever. Kevin faulk was the man.

Best career yard-per-rush average (5.32 yards per rush)

You are right and a player is not suppose to lose their spot due to injury and if the Diesel would have never broken his ankle Faulk would have only had spot duty....

I had the opportunity to see both play , and there is no doubt about the production that Faulk had in his career. Cecil Collins was a freak of nature. The speed and physical style of his game where uncanny. Kevin became a much better back after watching Cecil . During the earlier part of his career, Faulk would not engage would be tacklers prior to stepping out of bounds. Once the ability to " finish" a run was added you saw more 15, 20+ yard gainers for Kevin..
Cecil's time was short , however when it comes to flat out jaw dropping wow, it's not that close. He was fun to watch.

Wasn't around to see cannon or alexander so can't comment on them.
I do remember most LSU fans wanting faulk to go pro his senior year becasue they were afraid he would take carries away from the diesel.
Yep LSU fan's favorite player is always the second stringer and that rule not only applies to QBs.

Definitely a great one but if I had to choose it would have to be Dalton 1 and Faulk and Alexander the Great tied for 2nd!!!!!!!!!
agree with this...hilliard was one of a kind....not that faulk wasn't great...and alexander.....cannon was before my time so hard for me to make reference to him....kind of like hard for most of these kids on here to make reference of alexander and hilliard. I think I remember alexander scoring like 6 or 7 touchdowns one time against Rice.

Thank you, thank you very much ( My Elvis impersonation),now that's me being funny, but what douche you find funny about the watching Cecil take?

let me add though...while I think hilliard is number one.....I think there was a back that if he could have stayed clean/out of peoples apartments, he would have been hands down the best ever.....the diesel.

Kevin is surely one of the best, but I vividly remember the moment Cecil came on the field and how everyone pretty much forgot all about Faulk. All people wanted to see was the Diesel. Perhaps the biggest waste of talent in history, far surpassing RP after all is said and done. He had heisman written all over himself.

Laugh all you want. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that cecil was a freak of nature at runningback....along the lines of walker/jackson/cambell.....laugh it off....he was a &^%$up, but dude was incredible......
Out of all the backs that could have been great, but wasted their talent, he and dupre were the two greatest imo.

376 all purpose yards against Houston and we needed every one of those to comeback and beat them that game. One of the best comebacks in the 4th QTR I have seen. Tiger stadium was pretty much empty and Kevin just kept on making plays in the 4th QTR to pull ou the win.

but what do you find funny about the watching Cecil take?
maybe if you had a quote from Kevin Faulk confirming it that might be something but to credit Collins for Faulks success out of thin air is pretty ridiculous.

Without Kevin Faulk, LSU would not be where it's at today.
Kevin made it cool again to stay and play for the instate school. FACT
As a poster eluded to earlier, he beat houston his freshman or soph season pretty much by himself.

He was the 6th best LSU rb in the last 50 years.
Cannon - there is reason his number is retired.
Stovall - Heisman was stolen from him
Hilliard.- No LSU back could ever cut like him
Alexander - Power and Speed
Casanova- Mainly played Safety, but also limited rb and their is a reason his number is retired.
Faulk - Versatility
Ware - predict he will leapfrog Faulk and Casanova when he is finished at LSU.
