FURMAN. BAMA will jump on LSU early, force them to be one dimensional, then blitz package Mett senseless.

It does not matter. Bama is not that impressive. They also do NOT run the score up. Even if they feel victory is secured they will run clock in this one as well. When has LSU lost by 3 scores in all of Miles tenure at LSU?? In regular season.. especially off a bye..

That's just a ton.. LSU always matches up well with Bama.. they are the only team who does. No one is saying LSU will win.. but 17 points? Get real. LSU has too much talent to get that beat.

Has zero relevance this year. Last year, our defense kept us in this game, allowing the offense to take their time and pick their plays. This year, the extreme lack of defense this team has will have the offense trying any and everything to catch up, leading to all sorts of possible mistakes. I wouldn't touch this bet either.

This offense this year is greatly improved and converts 3rd down very well.. thus sustaining drives. Bama's defense is also not nearly as good as last year. LSU has the best active RB in the SEC and should grind out a ton of clock.. then convert the 3rd downs with Mett and the receivers and company. Getting COPELAND back for this game will do wonders as well.

Exactly!! Bama shut out OM when they had all their starters on the field, and LSU could not stop them when it mattered. 17 points is a little low if you ask me. What Bama did to the Vol's will be what they will do to the Tigers.Never thought i would say this about the team i love...man this sucks!!

In the last 3 regular season games, LSU was at least a 7-point underdog going into the game.

What happened? We won 2 of those games and it took every last second to beat us last year. Why is this year all of the sudden different?

Well for one thing, the defense is awful this year. But what really worries me is just like last year when the Tigers lost at home to Bama, the team just gave up knowing there was nothing left to play for.I believe the Ole Miss loss will have the same affect.

I completely disagee. The pressure is now off LSU and this is their superbowl and opportunity to pull an upset they are very capable..

This is still Bama, you don't think LSU will be up for this game no matter what then you are silly to compare this to the rest of the season last year.

Plus that team had a ton of juniors who were going pro and LSU didn't care much for that bowl and still made a game of it.

Again when has LSU lost by 17 points? Only game I can remember was Georgia years back with Stafford?? LSU's extremely balanced offense lead by a senior QB should be able to keep this game at least competitive.

I really think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I think this team has too much firepower to lose by 3 scores to anybody, regardless of your thoughts on the defense.

I fully expect them to be focused and playing with a lot of heart next week. Also, both coaches generally play this game in a way where they try to avoid being the first one to make the big mistake. In that kind of game, there is rarely a runaway victor.

I sure hope so, i would love to come back and say i was wrong, but i just don't see it. Look at the last 5-6 games LSU has lost and look how we lost them.We had a power house team and could not win the big games when it mattered, now we can't win the games we are supposed to win and yes we have a great offense, but the defense has been our downfall this season and that will continue. And those of you that say LSU has not had a blow out loss, well the Nat Champ game was a blow out and i'm afraid to say this one will be as well.....Man i hope i'm wrong!!!

Yes i agree the pressure is off, but the will to play for something is gone as well. Happened after the Bama game last year, and it's happened again with the OM loss.

Some of you guys dont get it, this isnt last year or the year before. We dont match up well at most spots on the field (especially the sideline) and its going to get ugly.
I'm laying on extra Makers for this one.

Mett and the offense slowed down at home vs UF .
Alabama has the best defense in the SEC. Alabama at home with McCarron should score at least 31 points on this young tiger defense. I think the Tigers will struggle offensively and score only 13-17 points.

Saban two weeks to prepare. Alabama 31 LSU 13.

Bama shutout the team who put over 500 yards of offense on LSU. Let that sink in for just a minute, and where is all this talent everyone speaks of it sure ain't on the defense. I love LSU football and nothing pisses me off more than not being able to believe we can match up physically to those rednecks. But take off the purple and gold glasses. I think the game will be close at halftime but they will pull away because LSU can't stop the run, then AJ will hit some play action because LSU bites on the fake almost everytime. 42-24.

I think LSU can beat Bama, but 34-17, 41-24 Bama would not shock me in the least.

All that googling and nothing? You probably could of started off by just reading this thread first to understand where this line is coming from.

The "estimated" line comes from the same formula that odds makers use to set their lines. If LSU/BAMA were to play this weekend that line would be -17 according to their formula.

Example: Lets take the Florida State/Miami line for this weekend's game. Everyone thought last week it was crazy to think that Florida State would be favored by 3TDs over Miami. But if you look at last week's chart to figure out the line you would get 20.

Florida St. had a Rating of -13 and Home Field Value of 5.
Miami had a rating of 2.

(Flordia State Rating) -13 - (Miami Rating) 2 = 15 + their (HFV) 5 = 20

So as of last week going into this week it looked like the line would be set around 20. The line opened at 21 this week.

It is also wise to keep in mind, that point spreads are not predictions of the margin of victory that the favorite teams will win by. It is only a number to divide the public on betting each side.

...and as you can see by some replies, some people feel Bama can cover that number and others think its ridiculous.

The way we have been playing, Bama will beat us by at least 3 TDs. Take Bama -17.

I guess the goal for the Bama game will be to cover.

That was usually the goal in the Curley Hallman days.

Sad.

Don't think Miles gives a shite about covering.

Had Mett not had his head in his arse for the first half of the OM game and not thrown three picks, I think we would have won that game rather easily. That would put us at one loss and probably in the top 5 of the polls. In that scenario, would the spread for the Bama game be 17? No way. these spreads are based upon the betting publics perception of the matchup. We all know that Mett had a horrible game especially in light of his previous play. My point being that our chances of winning this game have not diminished simply bc Mett had a terrible game. But in the publics perception, it has almost doubled the spread. All you naysers will see. Not saying we'll win, but it won't be a three score loss
