I’m not arguing that. The OP just seemed confused as to the question of possession of the ball. I was just explaining that it was the timing of the possession of the ball that mattered.

But if he steps out mid-pitch with 2 strikes, he’s out. Play at the plate moot.

Yep, if someone saw it it should be called on the spot and dead ball immediately. Not between innings 2 or 3 minutes later.
