It was the right call.

LSU kicks the extra point and Bama wins 17-16. What do you think people would be saying??

You're assuming only one more score occurs in nearly a quarter and a half of football. Stupid really.

ABSOLUTELY WRONG. The 3rd qtr is too early to consider going for 2.
PERIOD.

I forgot how shitty the LSU and Bama defenses are.

I don't care what the chart says. When Miles said go for two, I said it was too early. I don't think teams should ever go for two until the 4th quarter, especially if playing against an extremely good D. In addition with Bama's trouble getting into the end zone it seemed likely they would be kicking FGs. In this scenario it was the equivalent of going for the win with a 2 pt. conversion rather than taking the tie by kicking it. I don't fault Miles for the choice he made, but I didn't think it was a good call.

If you really think with 5 min to go in the 3rd quarter, that there may only be one more score in the game, then yes go for 2. Even with Bama and LSU being very good on defense, it's a little short sighted to thnk only one more score might could occur. Especially when both teams have explosive weapons on offense, not to mention excellent place kickers.

Danielson was saying that going for 2 was a bad idea because there was waaayyyy too much time left in the game to worry about that. he then pointed out later, when lsu was down 24-15, the missed 2 point conversion cost lsu b/c:

kick the xp, it is 16-10 lsu

bama kicks fg, 16-13 lsu.

bama scores td, and would have been 20-16 bama. bama would not have needed to go for 2 (which they did) bc lsu didnt go for 2.

then bama kicks the fg to go up 23-16, and its only a 7-point, 1-score game for lsu's last drive, rather than a 9-point 2-score game which we ended up with.

hindsight is definitely 20/20, and there is no way that anyone could have forseen this scenario, but it did make sense, and ultimately left us with not enough time left to get 2 scores, rather than about 2 minutes left to score the tying TD.

Happens all the time though. Coaches go for 2 way too early, and that one point comes back to haunt them.
