He didn't have a TD pass against Florida in 97 so let's back off the huge part there.
lol how obtuse. He was 10/17 for 172 yard with no INTs. He also rushed 8 times for 50 yards and two scores. He played flawlessly that night and was one of the biggest reasons we won the game. Herb Tyler had one of the highest QB efficiency rates in the country his last year IIRC. He wasn't blessed with the surrounding talent we do now. His senior season when he had no help defensively with tepper, he threw for 2000+ yards, completing 61% of his passes, with 18 TDs and only 7 INTs. Had we fielded a defenses worth a shite, Herb Tyler would have been given much more notoriety than he did.

And this was the QB's fault?
When your team only scores 3 points against an unranked opponent on the road? Probably partly the quarterbacks fault and should be at least a mark against him for greatest of all time. How many times did Stanford not score at least 20 points Elway's senior year? Once, they only scored 17 against a 11th ranked Arizona State. Also, you are acting like Bert Jones wasn't on some teams with some pretty great players. As for decision making, Bert Jones had a higher interception and lower td percentage than JR so I am not sure I buy that he was obviously a better decision maker (that said they are both very good and pretty close). That said, as I wasn't alive when Bert Jones played and the game was different back then so we can't completely compare statistics so I am totally willing the grant they may be 1a and 1b.

Brain spasm. I'd put Sr. year Mettenberger in tied at 7 with Rohan.
Mauck didn't make my top 10, but I like him.

I liked Mike Miley, RIP
Makes two of us. The one year we had "Miracle Mike" was awesome. Damn shame that he died so young with most of his life in front of him.

Jamie Howard?????
Would have been interesting to see what he would have done with a competent coach.

Only read 1st page so not caught up, wanted to take a stab with the list. I'm only going Jamie Howard & up because that is where I have good memory of game play.
1. Jamarcus. His talent was unbelievable. Not perfect player but like a PP7, Dorsey, Kevin faulk , and others, the things they were able to were unbelievable at times.
2. Matt mauck. SEC fill in for Davey & 2003. He earned it.
3. Davey. Was in school at that time. When the sleeping giant of college football woke up & has not stopped since.
4. Flynn. Very good QB that waited his turn (most wouldn't do that today) and delivered in the best way possible.
5. Tyler. Wasn't great but was an important part of a team that "brought the magic back". People 4-5 years younger than me are really too young to remember that it wasn't always like this. And the Florida game & Michigan St Indy Bowl I will also have a soft spot for him.
6. Mett. Like JR, Mett would make throws that were amazing to see. Played with a lot of passion, and won 20+ games.
I'm only going 6 because I think these are the only ones I believe are worth mention.
I also appreciate the others in my timeframe, they also gave me great memories that I won't forget. Howard, booty, knall, randell (nearly perfect game against Fl on the road), Lee, JJ, RP, even Hatch.

5. Mike Miley- 7TD/10INT
8. Woodley/Ensminger combo 16TD/18 INT, 8TD/15 INT and both below 50% Comp%

Pat Screen was leading the entire nation in total offense in 2 consecutive seasons (63, 64) when sustained season ending injuries. Bad luck kept him from back to back All-American years.

#1- JR...seeing what he did his Soph and Jr years was unreal.
#2- Bert Jones- Ahead of his time. Still puzzled as to why he was sharing time with Pat Lyons.
#3- YA Tittle- Beast.
#4-Tom Hodson- Great touch. Some of my favorite LSU moments had him at the helm.
#5-Herb Tyler- Bring back the magic.. He did so much in leading LSU back. The run against #1 Florida was unreal in 1997.
#6- Alan Risher- Very solid QB on some average talent teams. Only in 82 did he have great players to work with.
#7-Matt Mauck- I don't feel good about putting him over Davey but he had great #'s and won a NC. I thought he always had costly turnovers (UGA and OU -2003)
#8- Rohan Davey- Great QB sans AU game 1999
#9-Matt Flynn- Unimpressive #s and played with tremendous talent.. He played with a separated shoulder and led us to a NC. Warrior
#10-Mettenberger- #10 for how he battled with heart and made ridiculous throws.
Obviously this is subjective. Just how I see it.

Hillman
Paged all the posts till I found that you Rouge remembered Hillman. Guess not too many others remember him. He was the only QB we had I think who was left handed and very accurate with his passes. Should have won A NC when he was playing.
