What it boils down to our fans are lazy arrogant and stupid
Not all but a damn large majority. Only a third of the stadium actually wears gold on the gold game.
University could do the fans a few favors though by having a purple game. Because every literal person was a tiger fan as a purple shirt. There is limited gold apparel out there and most of it is ugly. Most people wear purple by default.
even if they put out free t-shirts striping the stadium people would not even wear them. They did this at the pmac a few years back for basketball..... and though it looked pretty awesome there was a large number of assholes who couldn't bother to wear the free shirt that the university gave them

really just want them to get rid of the purple/gold ambient lights around the stadium and install gas-lit torches between every arch. make it look more like you're walking into the coliseum and less like a circus tent

One gold game is enough of that kind of thing, IMO. But everyone does need to wear gold shirts to that game.
