Then you look at both coaches and realize we have zero chance to WIN. Avery Johnson has won an NBA championship as a coach, played and coached successfully at the highest level. You just had this bad feeling in the pit of your stomach that JJ was going to completely outcoached the rest of the way....And we were. So predicatble.

It reminded me of the 1987 Final Four game against Indiana. We were up by 10 points with 5 mins left and Bobby Knight calls a time out. He was seen and heard saying on National TV in the huddle to the players..."look at me, then look whose coaching the opponent (Dale Brown). Now if you don't believe we are going to still WIN this game, go sit your arse on the end of the bench. The rest of you, listen to me NOW...we got them right where we want them".

It wasn't a Final 4 Game, it was the Elite Eight, and you sound like you love you some Bobby Knight(who was insane)

And Bobby kight beat up his players and treated most of them like crap. I'll bet you that Dale Brown is more respected by his former players. That's not whats important though.

Is it really that hard to coach basketball?

Don't turn ball over.
Pass the ball.
Play defense.

It's not rocket science.

I guess I can coach football.

Stop the run.
Don't let them pass.
Don't turn the ball over.
Score touchdowns.

Thanks for the correction. My memory is fading over decades. BTW, I could not stand the arrogance of Bobby Knight, and I did editorialize a bit what he said, but it was something to that effect. To this day, I admire Coach Brown as a human being and motivator, but he was out coached in game situations more times than not even in his hey Dey of the 1980s.

Thanks for correction. He was in an NBA championship game as a coach at the Mavericks though...right? I do admire that man.

You misrepresented a LOT about what knight said. First of all, his arse didn't have the balls to say that in his huddle, he said that while breathing a HUGE sigh of relief after a game he BARELY beat a 10 seed with his #1 seed. Also, the lead was 8 points, and that is the game where that crybaby banged the phone on press row late in the game, and got EVERY CALL the rest of the game. Easily the biggest screw job of LSU ever!!!

Are you wrong! Brown out coached Knight. The only string Knight had left to pull was to intimidate the refs. How he did not get run for slamming that phone on the scorers table still pisses me off. So Knight had a temper tantrum got his way changed the game and won. His team was 30-4 that year.
LSU finished a 24-15 made it to the elite eight that year and almost beat the eventual champion and did it solely on talent and pep talks but not bit of coaching..right
