I was curious if they'd start to look at Merrifield some more at SS with the way he's been hitting, and having Thompson on the shelf. I think they'll have to look at Nippolt at SS some more, too. Neither strike me as a SS, but worth looking at.

Merrifield isn't quite as athletic as the other guys but he is playing with more confidence this year. I'm sure they could both handle it in a pinch.

I want our SS to make the routine plays. We can't kick/throw outs away at SS. Thompson is obviously rangy with a cannon but he has to make the routine plays and hit (or just get on base). If he's not able to do both of those things, I don't think Jay can put him out there just bc of his experience/potential.
I know everyone loves Thompson and believes he will be the guy, and he may be...but I can't help but be critical now that we have at least 1 other option in Guidry, and possibly more options with Merrifield and Nippolt.
