I don't have a problem with finding fishing spots closer than North La.

Where do you hunt in Dallas?

Strong arguement

I'm sure you're right though, BR is better...that is why hundreds of public companies call BR home. Oh wait, strike that, reverse it.

I was with you until

As far as outdoors goes, there is no greater place in La than the delta in northeast la. But to the poster talking about nothin in BR.. You have marepaus swamp WMA, tunica hills wma, cat island wma, sherbourne wma, False river, amite river, diversion canal. All within an hour, most within 30 min.

But paul, I don't get the disgust for the northern part of your state. I grew up there, and I can tell you there is not a mutual sentiment about south la people up there

What part of...

quote:

I never understood why someone would want to leave BR to live in Dallas. Dallas has all the bad things BR has. BR has all the good things (that I'm interested in) that Dallas has.

...did you not understand?

Strong arguement

My response was just as strong as the lame points I was responding to.

At least BR has the movie industry. I just heard on the radio a week or so ago (maybe on Moscona's show) that more movies were made in Louisiana last year than Hollyweird. Not sure if that's true... and if so, probably just the filming and not the whole production process. I would like to read the whole story. But I digress and Eyeball is a fool. You can have that shithole called Big D along with all the "public companies".

Ok...I have booked my room and I am pretty confident on tickets!! What will there be to do as far as LSU parties and what not in Dallas??

Not sure how this thread got from Labor Day Weekend in Dallas to Louisiana is better than Texas. Doesn't matter which place you prefer to live. Labor Day weekend this year, if you're in Dallas you can see LSU play Oregon. While you're here, you can hit some bars where other LSU people will be hanging out. I haven't made a weekend plan yet, but I read in an earlier thread that the House of Blues might be a good place on Friday night.

Contrary to several posting above, there are many non-chain restaurants in Dallas that you might want to visit while you're here. Pretty much depends on your taste, so I won't make a list for you.

This same tired topic is debated every year. BR is a great place to go to college, but a shitty place to live. Maybe one day when you grow up, you will realize that BR doesn't have much to offer beyond LSU.

Don't take my word for it - this same article is written every year: LINK

Bro you live in Houston. Crime rate is just as shitty there. And hell, you have to know Spanish in half the fricking stores. I'm not saying it's a shitty place to live, but it has shitty aspects. I've spent alot of time over there and I can't hardly take going anymore.
I'm an adult and I have a great life in Br. There are free music festivals downtown, endless supply of original eateries, new Orleans is a hop and a skip, we have casinos and gator tours, the list goes on. Oh and that little thing called LSU football, and that's fun for everybody.
So you can say Texas is the greatest place since the garden of Eden, but please don't say living in BR is shitty. You lose all credibility

Funny, I don't know a lot of people... but EVERY person I know that moved to Dallas ended up coming back to raise a family. OK it was only 2 couples... but they both moved back. Counting myself it's 3 of 3 families that moved to Big D ended up coming back.

I'm 44. Guess that's not grown up enough. But I actually whole-heartedly disagree. As a matter of fact, I think it's quite opposite... I think with age you realize Dallas is NOT the place to settle. Its fine for the younger people to party. But when you grow up you realize Dallas doesn't offer much, unless maybe like you said, you are unemployed. As long as you have a job in the BR area, you have NO reason to move to Dallas. I'll take BR (and surrounding areas) over Dallas (and surrounding areas) for raising a family any day of the week.

I suppose if I ever become unemployed I may change that tune. Until then I stick by my opinion whole heartedly. I lived there for several years. I have enough first hand knowledge to be able to come to this conclusion without second guessing myself. I left that shithole to raise my family in a "better" environment. I think your Biases are clouding your judgement.

I thought when Bush was in office over there, Texas was ranked something liked 48th in public schools? Did they miraculously turn around their horrible school system?

Ive lived in both and I loved living in Dallas. Lots of things to, 4 major sports teams

from 2000-2010 it was the fastest growing metro area in the country and produced the most jobs. The cost of living is great as well.

Baton Rouge is a good city and a good college city but its not much of a destination city. I can understand some people not liking Dallas, but saying Dallas sucks compared to Baton Rouge is a joke.

oh yeah...forgot about that !!

There is always something to do in Dallas/FW. I love how the guy saying that BR > Dallas is calling other people homers

That said, I love BR and would rather live there, but it isn't because there's more to do.

and another thing, who gives a shite???? why did this topic start?

their are 6.3 million people in DFW and a crapload of things to do, they just all arent in one spot or area like NOLA. Everyone just calm down and trust me you will have fun once September gets here. Their will be tons going on, and if your with good people and good food and drinks, then u will be fine.

For those of you who live in BR, good for you, for those of you living in DFW, good for you. Cant we just get along. It will be a great weekend and I am looking forward to it, maybe you should ask Miles to schedule a game in Hawaii, L.A. or Vegas so everyone can have plenty to do.

if you are staying around the stadium six flags and water world are just right across the road. if you want a strip club there are four in taxi distance but the best is fantasy ranch. if you want a good steak texas land and cattle is close. there is an ice skating rink and movie theater in the parks mall close by. if you want night clubs try either downtown ft worth and the stock yards or in dallas deep ellum, both are about twenty minutes in either direction on i30. anything you want to do in dallas you pretty much can. trolls here hating on the place have probably never been outside of louisiana. oh yea you will also find that in dallas they actually fix the roads.

TD.com has a member named Wade Philips. He has a cowboy star as his pic, and he is tooting the Dallas horn. He's not biased.

Whatever, unlike the large majority of BR people that cant wait to slam TX and Dallas, I don't have to put down the great things BR has to offer, I just have no doubt it is nowhere near as good as Dallas.

And I really can not be happier to leave BR in a couple months after years of living here... So I have grounds for comparison.

I also get a big kick out of BR people who are quick to throw the "right down the street from NOLA" argument. That seems like a ridiculous reason to talk about how great your town is.

I love LSU, going on my 3rd year there next semester actually. Born and raised in New Orleans area moved to Houston after katrina. I can honestly say BR and Louisiana are great places to visit and i was a big Louisiana homer when i moved to Texas but after living here up until I went to college there is no way in hell i'll want to live here after i graduate. i'll definitely come back for Saints and LSU games, Mardi Gras, and just to party on some weekends but i don't think anything can top texas in quality of life...sorry. but anyway can't for september 3rd!

When I lived there it took as long to drive from Dallas to grapevine, bedford... and certainly Ft. Worth, as it does from BR to Nola. So when people talk Dallas and surrounding areas (the metroplex), why shouldn't BR call Nola "a surrounding area"?

If you only want to compare the immediate city of Dallas and BR, you would have to exclude a bunch of stuff for both cities. Including a few of Dallas' sports teams. Aren't they in Arlington? And take out six flags and the water park... aren't they in arlington too. Take out a bunch of bars, restaurants, nudies, etc.... "The Lodge" was one of the best and my stomping ground... gotta take that out cause it's not Dallas. No fishing and Hunting in Dallas... unless you are with the KKK. I think the discussion was within the region. And Nola is certainly within the area. Certainly closer than Ft. Worth

I'm not sure the 25-35 mile separation is equivalent to the 80+ miles. But whatever, I'm not trying to recruit you to stay or move there. Everyone should live where they are happy. But there is plenty to do in Dallas and everyone should have a good time on the first weekend in Sept.
