LSU offense is serviceable, but any big wins will include ST and D points.

Herbie is on point.

"The philosophy that Coach Miles had was to be good on defense, be good on special teams and win it in the fourth quarter. We won a lot of games in the fourth quarter. We beat Auburn twice in the fourth quarter. What it did is it shortened the game. We didn't have a lot of offensive plays. When you look statistically, it wasn't great, but that wasn't our goal. Our goal was to win games. We won 40 in four years." - Gary Crowton on Les Miles (or LSU's) Philosophy

Story

Les Miles is old school. All this new-fangled spread crap is fine if you have inferior talent. If you have superior talent, then all fancy coaching can do is lose the game for your football team. This is the heart of who Les Miles is, who he learned under and what he will bring to the table week in and week out.

When LSU was still finding itself under Saban, we blitzed all the time. Look at his defense at Alabama now. It plays pretty vanilla defense, press man on the outside mix in some zone, and let the monsters up front do what they do best. Stop the run and when its a passing down go get em.

The things Les does is get the team ready to play (with a few notable exceptions - Auburn 2010) and beats the teams he's supposed to beat and wins his fair share of even battles.

Unfortunately for Herbstreit and the national media, LSU does not bring entertainment value to the table, so ESPN has the guys play up the offensive teams, because offense sells tickets and brings up TV ratings. (You think it was an accident that Packers - Saints was the first prime time NFL game.)

My point is valid if you can comprehend the statistical analysis behind it. Although, I seriously doubt you can.
