He put the end of game on a platter for his coach who didn’t understand either time.

It was weird. You can ensure victory by punching it in to go up 2 scores or you van run clock with victory formation. Handing off and sliding is easily the worst strategy. Very strange ending.

you have it completely backwards.

When an opponent has no timeouts and there's very little time left, the best way to GUARANTEE the win is to take a knee and the clock will run out. The math says there's ZERO chance of the opponent getting the ball back.

If we try to score, we could fumble on the run (the defense will try to strip the ball). If we do score, then we HAVE to give them the ball, and they could return the kick for a TD or score on a fluke play. Then, they're down one score and can try an onsides kick. This way, there SOME chance they can win (albeit very small).

So it's the choice between zero chance vs. some chance, and you should go with zero every time.

I recommend doing what I do and drinking heavily during LSU games. That way as long as LSU wins, it's hard to make sense of the minutia, much less get angry over it.

How can you argue this in disagreement with the guy saying take a knee instead of handoff?

What do I have backwards? If the strategy is to run the clock out then victory formation is the option. Handing it off only introduces risk for a fluke play.
