Once upon a time, before skip decided to sell tiger stadium to the "better (more giving)" fans this was what it was all about.

The point may be missed by the 20-somethings...a few of which are probably waiting to "educate" this old man about the price of progress.

One of the greatest gifts my father ever gave me was a copy of peter finney's book "the fighting tigers". Pop wrote on the inside "so you'll know, what its all about".

Thanks for posting those links and reminding us. geaux tigers!

not only that but the game featured in this video is the home opener against Oregon St after we had just lost back to back road games at Bama and Notre Dame - a lot of spirit considering

That was brilliant.

Having come to LSU from a thousand miles distant, I vividly remember my first brush with the magic of Tiger Stadium. Since that formative evening, I have ofen thought that there is a unique mania that animates the LSU fanbase, a sort of trembling, deafening blood fever. My generation didn't invent it, nor the one before me, nor those who stalked Death Valley yet earlier. No generation invented it. It has always been there, lurking in the old stadium. My travels have confirmed that you will find it nowhere else. It's the essence of LSU.

I would hate to see that tradition of booming passion fade, which is why I expend so much energy every Saturday in the fall supporting LSU. I wish other fans would heed our glorious history of fervent passion when they decide to leave games early, or arrive late, or when they can't even muster the energy to stand and cheer, or when they poison Tiger Stadium with hateful boos.

That's typical of the mindset lsu77...can't measure or find value in anything without some list to quantify it with.

No tiger fan is unhappy (or should be) about winning national championships.

But to me, what made Tiger Stadium great was the pure love of the fans for LSU...that's what you saw in the video. When that program was made it had been 20 years since the last national title. Yet look at the passion. These people didn't love LSU and support the team because they won....they did it because they loved LSU.

Maybe my priorities are in the wrong place, but when I think of my fondest memories that waken in my heart a tender glow being at the 2004 Sugar Bowl is no doubt up there. But so is legion field in 1982 and the la colesium in 1984. Beating Tim Brown and Notre Dame. Causing an earthquake. The ot wins vs msu and tennessee. Finally stopping the streak against Bama.

I'm not crazy or stupid enough to wish for the days when 9-2 was a good season....just saying we need to recognize what truly made lsu great and a special place.

That was awesome! I was a freshman at LSU when this was filmed. I forgot how ugly those 80's outfits were, but it brought back great memories. No One left early back then and the stadium was always filled with true fans.

I was the blonde towards the end on part IV when they were showing people in the south endzone.
And yes times have changed. However, every single person in that stadium bled purple and gold. With the exception of the enemy. We, as in one, scared the s___ out them. NO ONE left the stadium.
Oh hell I could go on forever.
THESE WERE GREAT TIMES IN TIGER STADIUM !!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could of been able to experience LSU football during the times when the fans really were passionate. I was at the game when LSU beat #1 Florida and watching everyone rush the field is one of my fondest childhood memories. As has been said the passion for LSU was amazing. I think that what the stadium is lacking now. Its just not the same to me and the experience of going to the games just isnt what it use to be.

Someone wrote "what was so special about the USC game"..(a loss). They too have missed the point. NC's are nice to show the neighbors, what lives in your heart cannot be taken from you with statistics...TS today is cell phones, nachos, "in your face, lowly opponent".
