I want to beat Bama again (3 Times in a row) so they can go off into irrelevance Like THE OHIO STATE did after 2007.

LSU the dragon slayer, and where media darlings come to die...

I understand and agree with your point about the "entitled" programs.... but we can still bitch and moan about it!!!

Also, you say we will never be looked at the way other "entitled" teams are; If we play up to our potential the next couple years, I believe we will have carved out a place for ourselves...

It was a segment on Sportcenter yesterday after they discussed the fact that your entitled coach will be a co-host on Gameday tomorrow.

Must be nice knowing that you are going to be pimped out during a game you couldn't even earn the right to play in.....LOLOLOL

Entitled Media Darling. You guys are the equal to the 2003 USC team, except you're a notch lower on the scale. At least that team won its conference. Schedule strength is about the same...

First, I want to say good thread.

quote:

My take on it is that those schools you mentioned, USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, etc all had decades where they dominated football gathering in 2-3 NC within a particular decade or decades. They developed a rep for being tough even though they may have had a decade here or there where they sucked, the perceived impression is that they will be strong again. So the least amount of evidence to that perception is flaunted by the media.

I looked up your profile, cuz I suspected that you have seen the transition. Back in the "glory days" for the "big boys", there were only 3 tv channels and exposure was usually covering the big games with Keith Jackson's voice. It ingrained respect for those schools. Now move to Miami, Neb, Fla St era, more games are covered, but theses guys dominated to get the respect. This is where we are now.

quote:

Success cant be taken for granted. This is a pivotal era in LSU football. These last two decades will determine how LSU is perceived in future decades

Get ready boys, there's some Good Times ahead.

I like the post, if I correctly understand it to mean, "Don't sweat the small stuff and commentators picking against LSU equals small stuff."

LSU has gotten plenty of air time. As long as we are being mentioned, who cares if the "experts" are picking the other side? This team's value and place is not determined in the studio, it's determined on the field!!!

Not a bad post, but your opinions reflect the underlying phobias of a large portion of the LSU fanbase...but at the end of the day, it's merely insecurity.

Let me debunk the myths that appear to be the strength of your points, well intentioned as they are:

quote:

1) LSU will never gain the respect of the media many feel they deserve.

So, you think LSU's baseball team doesn't get respect from the media? We are legend here because we proved it on the diamond, consistently over time. The same will happen with a similar run in football.

You, like a lot of LSU fans, expect way too much from the media; they don't work for LSU, they work for ratings. Nor are they LSU fans as some LSU fans just can't understand, rare exceptions notwithstanding (e.g. Tim Brando, resident LSU homer at CBS).

quote:

2) LSU's opponents never lose to LSU because LSU is better, they lose because of mistakes made by the opponent.

yes, you are whining. LSU fans will make the same accusation after a tough loss; that's just "butt hurt" from the loser of a game...nothing more!

Again, good post for the intention at hand: to show support for LSU and encourage fellow fans to follow your lead. But you my friend, need some support yourself.

Hold your head up. Be loud and proud. But be humble, too. Show respect to your opponent, in a win or a loss, and you will turn opponents into LSU fans.

As some have mentioned we are at the pivot pt. The next few years should have other schools fans complaining that LSU gets too much love. I am looking forward to it. Get 'em Tigers.

Agree on all counts

We got where we are because the team, coaches included, EARNED IT.

know your place? Ok then your place is at the top of the heap, national championship winners... unless some other deserving team you havent beaten already steps up. You all are champs in my book. great season.

Sure. I'll play.

This is a post about football, king of all college sports. Not baseball. Whole different media approach there since only about 1/1000000 of the country actually cares about baseball.

quote:

You, like a lot of LSU fans, expect way too much from the media;

Yeah, you clearly didn't read my post, or reading comprehension isn't a strong point for you.

I expect NOTHING from the media, as to the fact that I don't watch them. No need to. I already know what they will say.

quote:

they don't work for LSU, they work for ratings.

Wait, so you did read my OP, but you just want to contradict the OP because...well...I don't know.

quote:

Nor are they LSU fans as some LSU fans just can't understand, rare exceptions notwithstanding (e.g. Tim Brando, resident LSU homer at CBS).

Wait, I think you did read the OP! Wow, we agreed again.

quote:

yes, you are whining.

Nope. Wrong again. Laughing at stupidity =/= Whining. Not at all. In fact, I'm now laughing at you because my whole OP went right over your head and you are calling me a whiner. See the difference?

quote:

LSU fans will make the same accusation after a tough loss; that's just "butt hurt" from the loser of a game...nothing more!

Difference is, it is fans: not national media pundits.

quote:

Again, good post for the intention at hand: to show support for LSU and encourage fellow fans to follow your lead. But you my friend, need some support yourself.

How so? I'm smart, handsome, make great money, had a close affiliation with the football team for nearly a decade, and know what I'm talking about when it comes to LSU football. I'm the happiest I've ever been as a fan and recognize that what we are seeing in 2011 is historical not just on a program level, but in the entire world of CFB itself.

How is that insecurity?

I'm all ears.

quote:

Hold your head up. Be loud and proud. But be humble, too. Show respect to your opponent, in a win or a loss, and you will turn opponents into LSU fans.

Just when I think you read the OP....you confuse me again. LOL

Respect your passion man but I respectfully disagree with some of these points

Tradition can be created. One season at a time.

Optimism. Pass it on.

Thanks for the kind words ChiutFan, we have a lot to be proud of. I feel your pain, as well as other friends that are Tenn fans.

Woah.

Why do we need to crate any tradition? We have a rather quality/unique one already. One many programs in the country would die for, including many of the entitled/media darlings I listed.

You think Michigan, a school with a ton of tradition, would trade places with us today if they could? You're damn right they would.

Optimism.

The entire OP was nothing but glowing optimism. That went right over your head!

I disagree with OU on the list - have you ever been to Norman or Stillwater. ND is also barely hanging on your list
