It's true.

However, it has nothing to do with those two guys. It has to do with a more aggressive philosophy.

Basically, we played away from our strength. It was monumentally dumb. The idea that Orgeron could have allowed it to happen is unfathomable. The idea that a competent DC wouldn't have been able to look at the talent in the DB, see the athletes we had at LB and not recognize it is unfathomable.

There is not a direct correlation
The defense changed and the success was not because of their absence
Our defense, after the philosophy change would have been even better with both of them and more blitzing.
Their coverage skills were as good as any when the web wasn't given all day to throw. Tight coverage and a good blitz package and LSU defense would have been outstanding. Flott and McGlocklin would have been good in slot coverage and Ward excel at safety....
Our refusal to pressure QBs, only 5 blitzes in first 6-7 games was the cause of our D ineffectiveness.
