The article states more than once that LSU fans are ripping on Etling because he came from Purdue. I'm not sure where the author gets that, but it certainly does not seem to be a common complaint here
No. There CERTAINLY has been substantial ripping on Etling on this board about his time spent at Purdue. The most common refrain stating, "how can he be any good if he lost the starting job at Purdue facing Big 10 teams."

Situation wise? Yes. Johnny football couldn't beat out the A&M Starter either. That's the only comparison I'm making.
I have no idea what kind of talent Danny will show against an SEC defense.

100% correct.
People have cooled off on that after he got a shot Saturday. I think most people now have cautious optimism.

The way he says it in the article makes it seem like we're just ignorant and stuck on being snobby whereas the vast majority here liked what they saw and are rooting for him.

Grandad, you are as guilty of FICTION as you accuse me of being.
In fact, you are actually more delusional. He was 6 of 14 for 100 yards against an FCS school. So if I say he'll have a higher completion percentage and slightly more yards I am some kind of a-hole?
Those of you expecting this kid to be Drew Bree's because both of them spent time at a school in Indiana are setting yourselves up for disappointment. Danny Etling is a mediocre QB who has wowed exactly no one at Louisiana State University in the two years he has been here. No one.
He is our QB only because Brandon Harris has turned into a basket case.
I'm being realistic. We needed Harris (a physically gifted QB) to build off of experience and make a leap from okay to good. Instead, it is quite clear that the pressure got to him and he is a mess between the ears right now.
We will lose to Ole Miss, Bama, Auburn, Florida and possibly Aggie if Etling is our quarterback. 7-5 or 6-6. The Miles Haters will get their wish and if Joe Alleva whiffs on the hire, God bless us all. It's the early 90s all over again.
Do I want this! No. I want to be wrong. I want to go 11-1, go to Atlanta and win and get to the playoffs. That's what I want. But I don't see that happening with a camp arm like Etling. Y'all can't just watch the second quarter. You have to watch the second half. He is a serviceable back up QB and nothing more.
I realize I am going to get blasted for saying it, but I think there is more credence to my viewpoint than there is to Danny being the "missing link" to righting this ship.
Good night. I really hope I am wrong.

What is this "cautious optimism" based on? 6/14 for 100 yards?
It's not cautious optimism, it is desperate hope. That's my point.
