Burrows was competing for the starting spot at Ohio St, not some FCS/lower tier FBS school. He competed to be Urban freaking Meyer's starting QB, not backup. An injury stopped him from being the backup last year. He looked good in the small amount of time he had on the field, and he looked good in several spring games, scrimmages, and practice. LSU's QBs have yet to look good in any college setting. He's been coached for 3 years under a guru.
The guys he tried to beat out, one has 38 wins (school record), 12700 total yards (school record), and 147 total TDs (school record).
Barrett NCAA accolades
#4 all time total TDs
#22 all time passing TDs
Barrett Big 10 accolades
2/2 Big 10 championship wins
38-6 win record
#1 all time total TDs
#1 all time total yards
#1 all time passing TDs
#2 all time passing efficiency
#2 all time rushing TDs (QB)
#4 all time adjusted ypa
#7 all time cmp%
#8 all time passing yards
The other came in last year in relief of Barrett and beat hated rival Michigan, completed 70% of his 57 passes for 565 yards 4 TDs 1 int, and ran for 86 more. Haskins is a legit pro prospect with above average arm strength, elite accuracy, a super quick release, and good mobility.
Kinda hard to beat guys like that out.
It's pretty much a no brainer to bring this guy in. He'll beat LSU's QBs out before the season if he comes here, and if he doesn't beat them, then one of them has drastically improved over the summer ala Johnny Manziel 2012.
I'm excited for a chance to get a good, already well coached QB that could start the next two years, while we groom the future.
