If LSU wanted to fight this, they easily could. They needed him terminated now to get a new HC and also, they didn't want to drag this out from a PR perspective. Willing to also bet you money they had reason to fire him for cause but it would've been dragged out for years legally. It probably would also make the university look bad. No reason to have more PR disaster.

Kelly himself admitted LSU never did what you are now claiming. He wanted his money now. The lawsuit was filed on the 11th, when LSU was still abiding by the contract terms. The lawsuit even said that Kelly was still willing to entertain new terms. He got none

I find it hard to believe you’ve actually read the lawsuit if this is what you think it was about. I can quote the lawsuit too. The crux of the (alleged) issue was this:
quote:

On November 10, 2025, at the request of LSU, LSU's representatives had a call with Coach Kelly's representatives, where LSU took the position that Coach Kelly had not been formally terminated and informed Coach Kelly's representatives, for the very first time, that LSU believed grounds for termination for cause existed.

The lawsuit asked for a judgement declaring that Kelly was fired without cause. He never asked for a lump sum payout in the lawsuit.

You can choose whether you believe that LSU actually threatened to fire him with cause on November 10. But that was the basis for the lawsuit.
quote:

Kellys lawyers agreed that LSU was just continually paying him, but wanted a judgement anyway. Now both are back to the place they were on the date Kelly filed. LSU is continually paying him for 6 years. Nothing changed in BKs favor, and he dropped his own suit

He dropped the suit because LSU finally confirmed in writing that he was fired without cause, which was exactly what he asked for in the lawsuit.

That’s the LSU board as Louisiana politics for you. A complete embarrassment
