When replacing Arnsbarger LSU also interviewed a guy named Spurrier but turned him down for Archer. Hindsight is 20/20.
At the time that LSU hired Bo Rein another promonant Coach also was considered and he realy wanted the LSU job and that was Bobby Bowden, instead he stayed at Florida St and you know the rest. Bobby had just went to Florida St two years before and he had tremendous job of rebuilding that program but at that time LSU went into a five year contract to play Florida St here at Death Valley for 5 years if I have this right that is off the top of my head. The last game in 1982 LSU scored a 55-17 I believe whatever but that night the ground of Death Valley was covered in oranges because if LSU wins that game they play Nebraske in the Orange Bowl, they did and the final score was 21-20 Nebraska won. That was Jerry Stovals last year as Head Coach 9-3 and LSU hired a new Coach Arnsbarger in 1983.

Not quite accurate. Before that game, the Orange Bowl announced that they would invite the winner of the LSU v. FSU contest to play in their bowl. LSU won, got the invite and accepted. However, they still had one regular season game left against Tulane. Tulane won, but LSU still went to the Orange Bowl.
