you won't need both, you need to find out if your dish is swm or old-style

i work in satellite industry and sell both DTV and Dish.
The hottest product on the market is the Tailgater by Dish. We cant keep them in stock. Its a plastic shell that weights 10 lbs and it has a mini dish inside that all you have to do is hook it up to an HD reciever and it autotunes itself.
setup takes 5 minutes and it doesnt even have a power source, powered by the HD reciever. Thing is bad arse.
we took one out to the Nascar races in Ft Worth back in April and sold about 12 once people came over and played with it.

That Tailgater looks neat, wish DirecTV would do that. SWM dishes are really hard to setup and get a good signal. Easiest thing would be to get a Slimline 5 LNB rush off of eBay IMO.

yes its been out and is a far inferior product when you actually see both in person.
DirecTvs unit retails for $599, Dish's is $350. DirecTvs is a 17 inch TV screen, with Dish's you connect to any size HDTV. Good luck with a group of tailgaters in your tent all huddled around a 17 inch screen.
Trust me i sell both and Dishs is hands down better. DTV doesnt even push theirs anymore

The 17 inch screen has a "video out" port. We connect it up to a 35" LCD. No huddling

This. Sorry but those little bitty tailgating units looked nice, but sorry, I will stay with my 32". Again, SWM systems are very hard to set up. I am so glad I have a Slimline 5LNB(4 connections from LNB). Hook up my HD box to 1 of the lines and bingo, ready for football!

Can anybody who uses the older Multi-satellite(see pic) to tailgate tell me what they have the elevation and tilt set at? We had no issues with the dish until the last game of last season. I thought it might be the dish/switch since it was old and beat up, so I swapped it out with an identical dish. I'm using a receiver that I know works, but I can't get it above a 0% signal on the receiver's meter. I ordered a cheap signal meter that should be here before saturday, but it's pissing me off not being able to get it to work.
ETA: Never mind, I swapped the coax around on the multiswitch and it's seems to be getting a signal now. Just have to fine tune it.
