T or F: Moving to a Spread offense naturally results in the defense being relatively worse

Bama and LSU are both traditionally known for top ranked defenses and old school run-oriented offenses but both have moved to Spread style pass-heavy offenses recently and both have been unusually unreliable on the defensive side of the ball during that timespan as well. Not saying all the defensive problems are due to the Spread but does anyone think there is some correlation between the two?

ALSO: There is an article from 8 years ago where USA Today explored the defensive struggles of teams who run the Spread. LINK

One rationale they posited for the struggles is that defenses for spread teams perhaps feel they dont have to do as much becayse they know their offense will score alot.

The defensive “problems” last year were due to the spread. That defense still rated highly but it wasn’t shutting out teams

The defensive problems this year are bad defense, it has nothing to do with the spread

It can make their stats worse yes. But what we saw yesterday wasn’t the spread.

When LSU’s defense was healthy last year they were very good.

I think the mental aspect could definitely creep in and take an edge off some players on D.

Worse is the wrong terms The stats pile up more on the D but it doesn’t make them worse. If your D is still good they could and should keep the points down. Bend but don’t break

Fatigue comes into play, but does not apply to our d this year.

They are confused, clueless. It's so bad they've given up already imo.

False this is personnel, going to completely different scheme that we don’t have linebackers or ends to run. The players have no confidence in their coach and it shows. Bad move by Ed O he’s in trouble.
