College Football is full of these guys. Some of the recent SEC examples at QB include.
Matthew Stafford
Jason Campbell
Brodie Croyle
Chris Leak
The point is developing QB's (as a general rule) takes time. Most of these guys played early because their schools did not have other options.

are there any examples where a player just wasn't cutting it over a long period of time and the coach stuck with the player and the player just magically began to shine and play at a high level?
that's a loaded question mack. in my life experience i have seen MANY PEOPLE THAT GAVE IT THEIR BEST not only came on to shine but to excell. they adapted and developed a toughness that served them well for their entire career. oh, and i've hired many professionals so i have experience in what i say. i see two flaws in your question though. the first is when you say a long period of time; that is up for interpretation to define a long period of time and the second is you phrase "magically began to shine". not only is the definition of shine debateable (sp), but magically conotes "all of a sudden". generally, the process is not magical nor intstantaneous. as far as football (i am a retired sales manager in a very competitive business) goes, i'll bet there are literally thousands of examples where that has occured.

Didn't Drew Brees have some bad early years in the pros?

did a little research and found something a little sobering regarding the "end results" for QBs and WRs from The Hat's Okie State tenure....quote:
I don't remember a single damn one of them.
OMG, we are doomed for sure!!!!
If your definition of doomed is "History tends to repeat itself. As such - QBs and WRs will remain in the system for their entire 4 years and post workmanlike numbers but not the type of results that are NFL Draft-worthy" - Then yes. It seems there's a good chance we're doomed.

that's a loaded question mack.
So, again, I'm not drafting questions for the SAT, just looking for info or discussion.

Wrong.
No, it's not based on that premise. It contains that premise as a condition for the analysis.
Don't try so hard to be clever.
I'm not trying to impress you.
You asked a dumb question. I told you why it was dumb. Simple as that.
