Looking at Smart, Mayes, and Waters, I remember an old belief voiced by announcers going back years ago that a team needed strong guard play to do well in the tournament. Anyway, I remember folks saying that in the '80s which I always thought went against LSU because typically the strength of their team under Brown was their forwards.

This current team is positioned well to really test out that old adage. I feel as good about the guard play on this team as any LSU team I can ever remember. Obviously we need Naz and KBW to play well but we have as good a team of guards as anyone.

If Waters can play under control and perform as the QB of the team and not a mercenary LSU will go deep in the tourney. We know he can shoot, create and defend. His biggest area he needs to improve is keeping the offense flowing and getting his teammates consistently involved on offense.

Three point shooting needs to heat up. But the intensity and playmaking from Waters, Mays, and Smart has been awesome to watch.

Really. The team just needs to clean up the sloppiness they show at times.
Silly turnovers and Poor decision making easily cost us 10-12 points against UF.
And it certainly cost us the Arkansas game.

This is a S16 or E8 team with the current play.
It's a F4/Championship Team with those issues resolved.
