I'm embarrassed to say that I never took the time to figure out how they calculate ERA. I was never a pitcher so never gave a damn about how that stat was arrived at.

I hope this isn't in reference to me. I still stand by my assertion that giving the ERA for the year doesn't make sense when it's in a game's boxscore.

I really thought the +0.44 gave it away.

You are correct. We were talking about Gausman's performance in that one game and whether he "shut them down".

Boat's post. Not true at all. But most of us agree that Gausman did enough to win the game.

No surprise here for me. LSU's bats were worse than normal and SB was on a roll.

Today I expected them to lose this game. They are just happy to be in the CWS

Guasman kept us in that game, no doubt. No fault there. We just needed more than 3 hits.

Which is the point of the entire series IMO.

SB starters pitched 7, 9 and 9 innings (25) gave up 4 ERs and 9? hits.

4/25*9 = 1.44 ERA

ETA: or 1.88 with +.44

4/25*9 - 1.44 ERA

My work here is done. I feel as if the world is a better place.
