Perhaps it would be a good idea to have an official Assembly of Rantards that Miles would have to convene in order to get approval for major decisions about the program.

Doesn't he have another son being recruited as a QB right now? Is he Division 1 Material?

I'll reserve judgement until it's official. I note that no one...DD, Advocate, NOLA...has printed a whisper about this yet.

It's not the sexiest hire IMO, but far from the worst.

I just have to laugh at the Rant though: LSU is rumored to hire an assistant with QB experience, which many (myself included) have been praying for, and the Ranters STILL aren't happy.

If it's true, welcome back to the Tiger family Steve!

Yeah, I don't know much about Ensminger, but given what happened last season, my natural inclination is to approve of any type of action meant to change and revamp the offense, especially the passing game.

I would like to see an official list of interviewees before I make any opinions on this hire. Like, was this the only candidate with QB developing experience or was this the best hire Les could possibly make?

Because Esminger would not be my first choice or second with any other qualified candidates with QB experience.

Maybe we would have more faith in Miles if not for the co-DC disaster, and the Earl Lane hire.

Gary Crowton is looking pretty iffy too.

I hope LSU gets all the pieces together this year, and still think Miles can turn things around...but to blindly assume everything Miles does is hunky-dory is sort of sticking your head in the sand.

Everyone knows that Miles's public statements are often different from his actual intent. I personally don't mind his secrecy that much like some other people do, but it does cause people to constantly wonder what his real plans are.

Based on what I have seen, the Rant would do just as good or better a job than Miles has done so far. Miles has had some hiring disasters and FAILS, it's not that far of a stretch that someone else could do a better job than he has done. Those that believe that somehow Gonzales, who has no OC experience whatsoever, is going to be some miraculous panacea for the inept Gary Crowton would be laughable, if not so sad.

Maybe Miles can get some of the folks he wants but has to give in to the wishes of board/AD/TAF etc for some other minor hires?

or

Maybe LSU is not as attractive a job for some positions (i.e. for an up and coming star at that level)

Rantard needs to read the line, Ensminger is a TE COACH, NOT QB...geez you peoples like to imagine things that are beyond what they're really are. For me personally, Ensminger has ties to AL, which will have an awesome class in 2012 so maybe Les will use that chance to recruit AL kids just like what he did with Wilson

because he's not a good coach .. period .. he's the typical high school hero that banged the head cheerleader that went to the big college on his reputation and slid downhill from there .. that guy can't do anything more than put on a pair of bike coaches' shorts and grab a whistle .. which is what ensminger did ... lazy lazy fricking hire by miles ..

That makes his OC potential somewhat of an unknown, but certainly not implausible or unlikely.

Rantard needs to read the thread.

I said TE coach is pretty insignficant in the grand scheme of things. I was expressing shock at the large number of posters in this thread expressing hope that Ensminger would also coach QB or maybe even be an OC in waiting if Crowton bombs out.

If he's TE coach, it's not the end of the world.

If people think this guy is a great QB coach or future OC....wow.

Read the thread again.

I actually get what Miles was thinking about the co-dc thing though: continuity. Think about it, we only lost one coach from the 2007 MNCS defense, and didn't realize until after he was gone how much that defense had been Pelini.

It's easy to second guess, and hind sight is 20-20. Perhaps the problem was more in the 'co' and less in the 'dc' part. Meaning perhaps a sole voice would have done better.

Yeah, like many here, I wanted LSU to go out and hire a top flight DC. It should have been easy, after all we were the defending national champion and had some very good recruiting years prior.

We did get a new staff, just one season too late.

I think the kneejerk reaction is just to approve of any addition to the staff with strong ties to the passing game or the QB position, as this would seem to indicate a shift away from Crowton's old system.

It's really just an indication of how far LSU's passing game bottomed out.
