Some perspective - The SEC 2011-2015

A lot has been made about LSU's "decline" since the 2011 season. I put quotes around "decline" because in a closed system (like a football conference), a team cannot truly decline without other schools gaining ground.
So what has happened in the past 5 years of SEC football?
- Only three teams -- LSU, Alabama, and Georgia -- have played .500 or better football in the SEC in all 5 of those seasons. Every other SEC school has had at least 1 season with a losing record in the SEC in those 5 seasons. Additionally, Texas A&M is the only SEC school without multiple losing records in the SEC in that time frame. In other words, in the past 5 years, TEN SEC schools have had losing SEC records more than once. Let that sink in.
- And before you accuse me of including the 2011 season to bolster the stats, those same three schools are also the only schools with .500 or better records across the past 4 years. And the past 3 years. Finally, when you only look at the past 2 years, do you get a few more schools with .500 or better each year -- Ole Miss, Miss State, and Florida join the party. In other words, only 6 of 14 SEC teams have even had .500 or better for TWO years in a row.

That's what recruiting, a running game, strong defense and special teams can do for a program. Some of this season I am going to attribute to having to play too many young guys, a lot of it is attributable to lackluster coaching or not being able to change one's instruction quickly enough to communication that can be understood and implemented by younger guys. Special teams gaffes gave up way too many big returns in many games this season. Passing game has to improve, Miles has to adapt, water is wet.

We do have it pretty well under Miles. If only he wasn't so stubborn.

In 11 seasons, we have only had one sub-.500 SEC season. And only one additional .500 SEC. So, we have finished above .500 in the SEC (which means 5-3 or better) for 9 of his 11 seasons.
