After the first week of SEC play, we have a better idea of where everyone stands. As many of us suspected, Arkansas and South Carolina have proven themselves to be decent teams. Twice, Arkansas barely lost to Georgia. South Carolina has a young pitching staff and it is going to take time, but like Arkansas, they are a swing-away team that have an aggressive mentality at the plate.
All these new young pitchers look so promising, and they have both velocity and spin.
I have been itching to do a batting analysis player by player, and i think we have seen enough to know what we got.
Seems that every single person in the lineup has had their good days, and a lot of times we have hit the ball hard, just right to the defense. Sanchez ain't done yet. Emily has come around. Springfield is making contanct... things looking up.
Florida plays Georgia this weekend, i believe. Georgia has six starters over .400, and two over .300. Really aggressive and impressive.
Missouri has some good players. Give them time. Amanda Sanchez may very well be the best player in college softball.

Man nothing like sweeping the No 10 team in the country on the road and getting no bump whatsoever.

yea I thought we'd hop over Texas A&M

Wut? The game was at Tiger Park! LSU Tiger Park! But I did think we'd bump up a little!

Maybe they are still holding LSU's weekend vs UCLA and Oregon in consideration

UCLA has been the best team in the country thus far, imo. If they win the series vs Oregon then they should jump UW and UF for the top spot.

My take from this weekend.
I think this was one of the best SEC series in terms of coaching and preparation under Torina's tenure. LSU was well prepared in every aspect.
Andrews and Doyle are playing at All American type levels. Both sophomores are hitting above .400 after facing a elite Auburn staff. Doyle is now pitched around a lot and I think we will see it moving forward, it will definitely help add base runners
Springfield played really well despite the stat sheet. She attacked the ball early on in the count and made excellent contact. She hit the ball hard all weekend. Springfield all last year had major issues with outside pitches, on Sunday she smashed a pitch outside down the line for LSU's winning run. It looks like her pitch recognition is improving.
Schlattman definitely turned my head offensively and defensively. Offensively she hit the ball well all weekend, she can be a major offensive contributor moving forward. She has a really nice arm but her throws were on the money this weekend. It was dramatically improved. Leftwich did a nice job of working with Schlattman.
Pitching was phenomenal but Maribeth with the limited experience she had was outstanding. Moving forward she could be the X factor for this team. If she and pitch once a weekend or take up a lot of innings this will dramatically take a lot of stress off of hoover and walljasper. I am excited about her, she continues to improve with each experience. LSU very well could have a 3 headed monster in the circle this year
Defensively this is probably one of Torina's best teams. Sanchez definitely has looked way better at 3B. Serrett has had hiccups for sure but she has made plays that have saved LSU from base runners on the path. Schulte continues to improve every week.
I think this weekend will be a major confidence booster for this team moving forward.
We need to work Serrett out the funk she is in, she is I think like 2 for her last 30 something.
We need someone to step up in RF. I think Antoine is obviously the player with most potential due to her pop in her bat and speed. At the moment she seems to be timing the pitchers wrong and which is why we are seeing a lot of foul balls from her. Thornhill could be a possibility but still has work to do, I think the injury set her back a little. Claire has some ability but I am not 100% sure if she is LSU's answer for SEC play.
