Looking at the updated stats, the team batting average is now. 401

Of course I expect that to drop a little after facing UCLA and Utah tonight, but still, to be that good after 13 games is pretty impressive

It's actually unbelievable how well this team is swinging it. Landry and Jaquish are just flat out great hitters. Griggs has been superb. The real mystery or surprise is how incredible Doyle and Springfield have been. They are extra base hitting machines and no one could have envisioned them starting off this well. Serrett started off slow but has really hammered it the last few games and Quinn had one of the best days of her career last outing with 3 extra base hits. I remember watching Sanchez in travel ball and she was always a very good hitter.

If we can keep up the defensive play and of course our ridiculously superior pitching this team will be tough to deal with. If you think the BA is good check out Smith, Wali and Hoover's ERA.

A couple of players have looked good in LF so once that is ironed out and players can get comfortable with a role and knowing it is their position the sky is the limit. Things are only going to get better from here.

I really have to tip my to Dobson and Leftewich, some of te adjustments to these players swings and approach at the plate have really paid dividends.

This weekend Has been a breakout weekend for us at the plate, a lot more huge plays are being made. We have 5 home runs, 6 doubles and 2 triples the first three Games of this tournament.

Florida looks rough this year at the plate. Tennessee looks pretty solid too.

As many of us have already said in the past, Dobson is one of the best, if not the best hitting coach around. Since I live in Houston, I was able to drop by 18handicap's Gulf Coast Softball Coaches Clinic and Dobson was one of the featured speakers along with the head coach of the University of Washington. That 45 minutes that I heard him speak was just amazing. There were almost 500 coaches in attendance and they were writing every word that he said. 18handicap runs a heck of a coaches clinic in Houston each year...

I saw 18handicap at a high school tournament today. His shortstop is Craig Biggio's daughter and she launched one that hasn't landed yet. I asked him why he doesn't post anymore and he said he was banned because he made a comment about Malachi Dupre. When the rumor was out that Dupre was going pro before the bowl game, he said "leave his arse at home for the bowl game if he don't want to play." He was so incensed that he got banned for that and educate can stay on the forum after he threatens a player and the family of that player, that he said that he would never visit this site again. It's a shame because I always liked to read his point of view as a LSU softball fan, plus his 30 years of coaching softball in Texas and Louisiana.

Softball threads are the most bizarre out of all the sports. We have posters who haven't posted in years randomly show up and start attacking, as well as random accounts made within the last month with less than 5 posts. It's weird because a lot of other sports, the criricism of a players performance gets you banned, but in softball threads, we have people ripping into the player because of jealousy. We have people claiming that certain players are black mailing the coaches. We even get much further as these attacks start going at these players families. LSU softball threads are beyond disgusting now a days. Hiring Torina was truly a blessing in disguise, I love it that she owns Murphy now haha.

If it were up to some posters, Beth Torina would be fired.

I don't know Bait, have you been on the football threads and seen some of the harsh critiques of players? Jordan Jefferson, Anthony Jennings, Brandon Harris, DJ Welter, Quinn and Dupre with the drops and a host of others have been absolutely toasted by dozens and dozens of posters. Many turning pretty personal.

This is certainly not just softball. Remember the "Jordan Jefferson has something over Miles" and DJ Welter's dad is involved in why he was playing. I don't think it is isolated to just softball. Fans have opinions and sometimes they are stupid but nonetheless they are free to express them.

Short of educote I haven't really seen families or players for that matter get "attacked". Educote always had harsh things to say about Papa Griggs and Papa Dawson but that guy is mentally ill and not the norm on the board. If there have been other personal or family attacks I don't remember seeing them. Not saying they are not there, I just don't remember reading them. We did have a newbie poster this week logging in just to make snide remarks about a current player but those types seem pretty isolated.

Beth is a blessing and this staff is better than anyone could have imagined on hiring. But I don't believe that should make all decisions critique free. I also think it's fair to assess player's performance, good or bad, as long as they are not personal attacks. I think it is just as bad when fans get in a tissy because someone actually negatively critiques a coach that they happen to admire or agree with. I'd say of the "major sports", and I consider softball one of those even though not many do, Torino is probably the least critiqued or challenged.

You know the old LSU saying about fans, the perfect year is you win the National Championship and the Coach is fired right after the season.

Almost always enjoy your post!
