How many games did he pitch?

myth. muscle doesnt make you less mobile. better mechanics may help him throw a couple mph, but he's not going from 89-91 to 95+
WRONG. Muscles are tighter the more you lift for power and weight gain (mass). So when you stop that type of lifting and lose the extra mass associated with that, absolutely your range of motion, felxibility, and stamina increase which should allow him to gain some more velocity or at least maintain it longer.
Not arguing, I'm just stating the truth and the reason most pitchers aren't super bulky. There definitely are acceptions, but not too many. He's a freak of a player though, realize he didn't train to pitch exclusively yet, and it makes a difference.

quote:In 1950, this was the thinking(google muscle binding). Welcome to 2010. you obviously don't know much of what you're talking about because losing muscle won't improve flexibility either. The only truth in which you speak is if a person is humongous to the point that their physique starts to become a physiological barrier(chad jones ain't that big, think ronnie coleman). Muscles can & will retain their extensibility as they grow as long as proper flexibility training is incorporated. By your calculations, Tiger Woods' golf game should have taken a dive when he bulked up, right? Stick to ranting, leave the fitness stuff to people who know

And you would be wrong. Big slow safeties are not gold in the NFL. Big lefty pitchers with a slider are gold in MLB.

How muscle affects mobility and Chad Jones decision on which sport to go pro in.

What calculations genius? Did Tiger pitch...NO? Very different because gold doesn't apply the same type stamina. One swing every 5-10 minutes isn't exactly the same as pitching every 20 seconds, is it?
So let me get you on record...Chad Jones would follow the same weight training routine Moffett uses for football if he were to play baseball only and train to be a professional pitcher?
You have lost your mind if you beleive that. And I do knw exactly what I'm talking about and the wierd thing is you know also that training routines are absolutely different for a pitcher than they would be for a safety/linebacker in the NFL, yet you still make an arse of yourself saying differently.
For the record, yeah, Tiger really "bulked up"!! He went from bout 170 to 185 over the course of many years and didn't put on fat.
But by your "calculations" he is striving to bulk up to 220-225 to be even better, right??? Of course not, thanks for ranting, but leave the realistic facts to us.

Sorry it was off topic, but I was discussing why Chad might be considered or not by the majors and all the factors. Didn't mean to have to correct a "pro" fit guy.

He's a lot like your dad. He and I were high school teammates (I was the QB and he was the tight end), and he never spoke a lot either. He talked when he really had something to say, but that was about it. Great guy, though....and a good football player.

I seldom post, but I read the posts from time to time. Tell your dad that Bill said hello and I hope things are going well in Bastrop. I was home for Christmas and it seems odd not to hear the paper mill running.

This argument was over one thing and only one thing. HYPERTROPHY WILL NOT MAKE YOU IMMOBILE. ATROPHY(do you know what that means?) WILL NOT MAKE YOU MORE MOBILE. So whether he gains or loses, it ain't gonna affect his fastball much. Reading comprehension is a lost art on the rant. Nobody said shite about him bulking up to pitch or that golf training was the same as football training. The tiger reference was to use an example that you can gain muscle without affecting your mobility. if it did, don't you think his swing would be affected? If you knew anything about this topic, you would have caught that. But go on, tell me more of which you "know" from reading Muscle and Fiction Magazine or from what you learned from the local meathead at the gym.

Bill, my dad said hello. told me a littel about you guys back in the day.
said you could throw about 70 yards.
said your dad owned a store at that time.
said he was talking to someone about a year ago and your name came up and they wondered where you were.
sorry to hijack the thread guys but did not want to start a new one for this.
