I had a teacher walk up to me the first day of class, take my LSU hat off and turn it around. He then proceeded to give me the directions to LSU and said to go there if I wanted to wear that stuff in his class.

Something tells me the number of points we score this weekend will be higher than your professor's IQ.

I also go to ULL and it bugs the crap out of me when other students put ULL on LSUs level. They are no where close to them. Ull is a small school that seems to have their football on a competing level inside its conference and I will still pull for them when they play teams other than LSU

I have a coworker that went to Tennessee. He was born and raised in Mandeville and moved to Knoxville sophomore year of high school. LSU fan from birth. He couldn't afford a no scholarship/financial aid payment at LSU which was now out of state for him, so he chose to pay in state tuition at Tenn. He didn't support them by any means other than paying to go to class there because it was a means to an end to better his position in life. He still support LSU athletics.

Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with that.

In my opinion, this guy is a douche.

You should always support your school, especially over one on the same level and/or in the same conference as your's.

Just how I see it.

Sorry, but my heart controls my fanhood and not my location. Now, I'll cheer on my location while I'm there and if it's not playing my heart, but no way I go again my heart.

If that makes me a "douche" in anyones mind, so be it.

If one is able to go to a big SEC school as a student and not develop a "heart" for it (yes, even Tennessee ), I sort of feel sorry for that person knowing he's missing such a huge part of the college experience.

As much as I commend the guy from UT for putting the Tigers first, this hits the nail on the head.

Not every LSU fan can/should go to LSU. There are not close to enough spots, even if they all qualify. Add to that better scholarship offers and/or better specific programs elsewhere. It is asinine to criticize kids for going where they need to go, but still being LSU fans.

I understand what some of you are saying about wanting to go to LSU or never went to college but support LSU etc. I understand and have no problem with that. Would you as a LSU student or alumnus have a problem with other LSU alumnus or students who publically support Alabama, Ole Miss or Florida by wearing their tshirts, hats etc, and also even as a LSU alum, instead of sending money to LSU, they send it to Alabama and their football program?

Friscodog, you logic is flawed. LSU is a peer and co-league member with the other SEC schools you mention. LaTech and ULL are peers but not with LSU. It would be like wearing a Texas shirt to classes at Texas State or Lamar. It makes sense because the school are competing a different levels. Having said that, I see fools wearing other SEC shirts all the time at LSU. I happen to like Penn State and wear a t-shirt from there some time.

Why does he have to be missing anything? Infact, why doesn't he have the best of both worlds? He supports the Vols, goes to the games, the pep rallies and what not, but yet remains true to his heart.

I don't see anything to feel sorry bout, but each to our own.

It's one thing to keep a place in your heart for the team/school you grew up cheering for.

I've just always been of the opinion, though, that a person's ACTUAL undergrad alma mater should trump all.

Why should we care where others send their money??? I really don't get that. If it's your money you are taking out of your wallet, spend it as you see fit.

If LSU can't get money from their own alumnus for whatever reason, the blame, if there is any that must be placed somewhere, falls on LSU and not the alumnus. imo

I strongly agree with this. People who act flippantly towards their own school are basically undermining their degree. I do believe there's a place for maintaining loyalties though. I went to a different state school and pulled for LSU. The people who really bother me are the ones who devalue their own school in the process, which is unbelievably stupid IMO

But some don't devalue their schools. They're just Tiger fans.

I went to La Tech (mostly because I got scholarships and it was a money thing). I loved going there. It's a great school and I got a good education. I support La Tech, would never disparage it.

But I'm a Tiger fan. It's pretty darn hard to bleed purple and gold, know all the stats of everyone on the team(s) and then cheer against them because they are playing the school you attended years ago. Lots of my fellow LaTech alums feel the same as I do. And it's not as if we didn't pay into LSU for grad school. My husband's post grad degree says "Louisiana State University"

I say you have the right to cheer for whoever you want to regardless of where you go to school. Sheesh!

I always laugh at the people who talk about their 'college experience.' Like that retarded song that came out not too long ago about drinking and how the guy loves college.

Logically I always assumed college was about education, silly me for confusing that with cheering in a football stadium as an essential part of college.

I miss the days when people wore suits and ties to the classroom and America stood for quality and workmanship instead of how long you can go on a keg stand.

I wonder what schools without large athletic programs do for that essential college experience.

Then what's the fricking point?

Applying your logic, we should dismantle the NCAA, and simply have the NFL.

It's a bit different for schools that aren't similarly situated, (i.e., LSU and La. Tech), but I still say it's chickenshit at best not to pull for Tech (if you indeed got a degree from there) if and when they play LSU on the rare occasion.

Same here. I went to USL undergrad and still pull for them (except against LSU). Got my law degree at LSU. Always a huge LSU fan. The two teams are after different things (or should be) ULL will never be in the same class as LSU for obvious reasons. That does not make me a bad alum, just speaking the truth. I just get tired of this same crap evey time we play ULL.
