So, you reset and say, "OK, I am going to take a full fledged drink of the kool aid, instead choosing to focus in on the more positive aspects of the hire, like he fact that he is not Crowton, his TAMU and Tulsa OC results, how he is a QB coach with solid experience perfect for coaching Mett/Rivers, how he runs a true Pro style offense, how we will finally have a true offensive identity, and his seemingly strong rapport with CLM.
When you do, you start to feel a lot lot bettter.
Not really. It's like you said, the last guy was awful, so even if Krags isn't the right guy for the job, he can't be any worse. However, I haven't noted anything too terribly impressive about his resume. This morning, I checked the Dandy One's site and felt even less excited about the hire. Even the Tulsa stint looks dimmer: 29-22...AT TULSA. I thought, "well, it took him some time to turn things around at that awful program." But he went 8-5 in his first season. Which means he didn't get a whole lot better the rest of the time he was there. I get that he won conference USA with a 9-4 record in 2005, but we're talking about Conference USA. I was kind of hoping for 2 or 3 loss seasons against the monsters in that league.
Next, I look at at his performances in bowl games against national powers. Again, not impressive. His offense put up 23 points in a losing effort against UCLA in 1997, 14 points in a losing effort against Ohio State in 1998, 0 points against Penn State in 1999, 41 points in a losing effort against Miss. St. in 2000, 10 points against Georgia Tech in a losing effort in 2003 (the year he was up for all of the coaching honors), 31 points in his only bowl win against Fresno State, and 13 points against Utah in his last losing effort in a bowl game. Not exactly setting the world on fire.
His other major acomplishment was the coaching of Drew Bledsoe at Buffalo. But Drew Bledsoe had already been in the league for nearly a decade. He had been to the Pro Bowl 3 times prior to ever meeting Krags. I don't know how much coaching Krags could have given Drew Bledsoe.
But I'm not a Debbie Downer on this one. Krags may turn out to be a great fit. Only time will tell. But I certainly think there were better options available. Not the first time Les has made an underwhelming hire.

More pointless drivel. Give the guy a chance with this talent...if he fails, rant on and feel superior to everyone if that makes you feel better. If he's successful, I'm sure you will forget about this thread like everyone else.

this is the fricken rant....it is all pointless drivel...and of course we will give him a chance, which this posts attempts to encourage, because we have no option in the matter.
If we only constrained this board to productive discussion, where what we said actually had some influence on LSU football, the rant would shrink like a dried prune.
Get over yourself and recognize this board for what it is.

This.
...and I think his comment was meant for my response. Don't know why he responded to your original post. That said, you summed up what I was thinking regarding all things pointless on the Rant.

Krag and I are gonna shotgun some adult beverages and win us a National Title. Chavis can come too.

Drink the damn Krags kool aid, and drink it plenty.
I still think he's a borderline loose cannon. However, with our talent and defense, an "OK" pro-style, with some alternative packages thrown in for good measure are much better than the "Not OK at all, but looks awesome for about 12 series a season", Frankenstein's monster, "WTF are we doing on offense? Thank G-d for Stevan Ridley!" stuff we've done the past 2+ seasons.

Many here on the rant, and in the LSU community overall, had their eyes on other OC's. Meanwhile, from all accounts, Miles had his eyes on Krags, and we all know when Les has a liking for someone, forget about anyone else.
He's the fu cking head coach. It's his call. He's supposed to hire who he wants. You want him to hire who YOU want? Idiot!!
I quit reading after that. Any body too stupid to understand how things work in a football team can't possibly post anything of intelligence.
