Isn’t that a Little League thing? I was literally coaching a six-year-old not to do that today. It’s an easy fix. How is our 9 hole hitter doing that?

YES!!! I mean WTF. Half the team does it. It’s unbelievable at that level. They can’t cover the plate.

Earlier today, I recorded a six-year-old on my son’s team, so I could show him why he was unable to cover the plate while stepping in the bucket. He was like, “Oh, I get it. The bat won’t reach!” WTH Our season isn’t over until April, but I might be available coach by the SEC tournament.

When I was coaching, I would lay bats on the ground in the “bucket”. Every time the batter stepped in the bucket he was stepping on a bat.

Cured it pretty damn quick.

I’m old school. My dad would lay a belt behind me. You did not want to step on the belt

Milazzo was able to get away with it until now. How do you make a player change if they're still successful? He was a priZed recruit that signed with LSU. It's a really hard habit to correct, especially this far along. I don't think game reps and the limited practice sessions will correct it now...it's going to take alot of extra work to correct. It's really beyond just stepping in the bucket now. He's so imbalanced that he can't even hit mistakes.

I put plastic lid in “the bucket” and told the kid if you are stepping on that after you swing, you did it wrong. My coaches taught me by putting a floor mat out. It’s an easy fix.

It’s actually one of the easiest hitting errors to correct because you can use props to show the batter each time he does it. You could even put something behind his lead foot to make it impossible for him to step back. He isn’t going to hit much this year if he keeps doing it. Maybe he could try to compensate by standing closer to the plate, but even if he hits it, he will lose much of his power.
