Selection Sunday losers

Michigan | Seed: 1 | Region: East

Michigan's Big Ten semifinal loss didn't knock the Wolverines off the top line, but it did bump them below Illinois on the top line. The result? A potential second-round matchup with fearsome LSU.

If you like playing the futures market in college basketball, you either have to hope your team gets a good draw or wait until the bracket is revealed. For those still looking to place a bet on a team to win it all in a few weeks, here are the five teams that were affected most, for better or worse, by their draw (with odds to win the NCAA championship from BetMGM):

Worse: LSU (+5000)

Yahoo Sports' Michael Lazarus had LSU as a No. 6 seed on his.big board. Most bracket projectors had LSU no lower than a 7 seed. Instead the Tigers got a No. 8 seed, get a tough first-round matchup against St. Bonaventure (LSU opened as just a 1.5-point favorite) and then if they win that, a game against No. 1 seed Michigan. Had the Tigers gotten BYU's No. 6 seed, they'd face Michigan State or.UCLA coming off a First Four game and then overseeded Texas. That's a huge difference, and it turns a talented LSU team from a fun long shot to one to ignore in the futures market.

I actually like this draw better

I would not have wanted to play Michigan St followed by Texas that would have been much harder than what we have

I like our draw as well. St Bonaventure will be no push-over but we've seen Michigan can be vulnerable. If we have to meet up with a number 1 early, I would pick them. Thank you Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan State and Ohio State...

I love the SBU matchup. As long as we keep their three point shooting in check this should be a route. Days will have a 6’5 guard on him. He should hit his 11+ fairly easily

They could play a zone defense

SBU doesn't take many 3's per game, so look for LSU to give them that shot early. Defensive rebounding and how the game is called will likely be the things to look for. LSU is AWFUL on the defensive glass.

On the flip side LSU looks to be a bad personnel matchup for SBU's defense. SBU has a tremendous shot blocker...but LSU doesn't have a true back to the basket post presence. If SBU plays man their shot blocker is going to have to come out and guard either Watford, Days or Hyatt. He can't play Watford tight because Watford will beat him off the dribble. He can't sag on Days because Days will bury a three.

Because of that I think they either give Watford and/or Hyatt all the 3 point shots they want OR play a ton of zone.

They’re gonna play zone and make us hit outside shots. If they play man to man we’ll score from open looks (inside and out) all day

We should definitely have BYU’s seed. It would have been so easy. But they wanted Bama in that bracket instead of putting them in the one with Mizzou, who is all by their lonesome. Thus, a conundrum was born. It only took 3 brackets to realize we weren’t getting that sixth seed.
