A win over UGA and a loss in the BCSCG will feel a lot more hollow than a loss to UGA and a win in the BCSCG.

I recognize you were presenting a hypothetical scenario to support your point.

I am not alone in believing the bcs/espn bowl has lost credibility or respect. The free pass for bama only helps confirm it.

LSU has earned the right to play for the national championship by having one of the greatest seasons of all time. Bama is there because they are being given a second chance.

anyone in here saying that an SEC title is better than an BCS title are lying to themselves or think we won't beat Bama again and are looking for a way to say our title is more impressive than theirs.
that's quite an assumption on your part.

search for my recent post history and you'll see I've said several times that beating Bama in the BCS title game would be the ultimate capper on this dream season.

but, if we lose to UGA this Saturday it would put a serious negative spin on any subsequent game, imo.

I strongly disagree with all that sentiment out there about "poor LSU has to play an extra game Bama doesn't" or "LSU could lose this Saturday... meaningless SECCG".

Excuse the frick outta me, but winning an SEC title is a HUGE FRICK'N DEAL. And there is no doubt about LSU's SEC supremacy if they win that game. BCS title? well, let's just be glad that OU and Stanford and Wisconsin all lost and were not juggernauts or else LSU might be on the outside looking in a la Auburn 2004.

Thus, the BCS title is still "mythical" because it is an agreement by a subset of Div I programs and is not NCAA-sanctioned.

Love seeing the Tigers lift that crystal ball, don't get me wrong. But, an SEC title is absolute and completely within LSU's control from day 1.

So if you had to choose, which one would you want?

1) SEC and BCS/ESPN
2) SEC only
3) BCS/ESPN only

you make it sound like the SEC title is the real title and the BCS title is just icing on the cake. I want to win both, but seriously it's the other way around. An SEC title is def a big deal but a BCS title is a much much bigger deal. You think if we won the SEC title and lost the BCS title anyone in the country would give a flying frick we won the SEC title or even remember we did years down the road? I would have a much more sour taste in my mouth to win the SEC and lose the BCS than to lose the SEC and still win the BCS. No one is saying the SEC title doesn't mean anything, but to say it's more important than a BCS title is laughable at best

Illegitimate, flawed and mockery are words used by major sports publications to describe the bcs/espn bowl you value so highly.

I will take the SEC Championship first.

Since inception of the BCS, LSU has 3 SEC titles and 2 BCS titles. In 2001, LSU, the SEC Champion, was left out of the BCS game for Nebraska, which again was a total joke.

In the current BCS system (since 2006), LSU has 1 SEC title and 1 BCS title.

In each of the last 5 years, the SEC Champion has also won the BCS title game. In fact, an SEC Champion has never lost the BCS title game.

I know all this (i assume you're being a smartass), but we have zero banners for SEC titles flying at Tiger Stadium and 3 national championship banners. Why is that if SEC championships are more important? I can't even believe this is even being discussed, but it is the rant i guess.
