Never said they had to kiss arse, just have pride in their University. I dont want them putting B.S. out their and honestly I dont want to hear any of their opinions until the NCAA deals with it.

these kids want this on their resume when they go looking for a job...it's the way it works, cut-throat, but it's the way of the news world.

Journalists are supposed to give up biases and allegiance towards organizations.

Fixed it....but we know they don't.

The Reveille did the right thing.

No they didn't. They never do.

They don't answer to LSU,

Uh, yeah they do since it is subsidized by university funds.

they answer to journalistic integrity.

There's no such thing. It's like the Yeti!

Just like every other newspaper in the country.

Please tell me you're not comparing this SCHOOL newspaper (BTW, I've seen better come out of some high schools) to a real creditable newspaper.

The Reveille is a joke. Always has been, and will continue to be.

I am saying they should write an article about it AFTER everything has been found out and the NCAA has taken action.
That isn't reporting. That's stenography.

Good reporting is finding the truth of a story before someone hands you the press release.

Now, I have some big problems with the story the Revielle wrote. It essentially used a non-primary "source" who, based on how the story described him, wasn't in a position to know the facts. A former player is in no position to know if, in fact, McCarthy paid Hicks anything.

But as for the Revielle trying to get the story, more power to 'em.

By the name of their occupation (e.g., reporters), I thought it was their job to report the news so that the readers could decide for themselves how to keep government and institutions in check if necessary.

Are those qualities you want in a newspaper?

Let's be real....This isn't a newspaper we are talking about. At best it is a student project. At worst it is a miserable attempt producing an entertaining tabloid.

No wonder you sound so miserable!

I feel bad for you that your parents couldn't raise you to make better decisions in life. Wouldn't scrubbing port-o-lets with a toothbrush be more rewarding than being a journalist?

Glad you chose not to use the word "reporter" though.

excellent point, but then again this thread should have never been started. Epic fail.

Disturbs me to realize how many "know it all" people there are in this world.

Again please know what you are talking about before you post. There is some amount of from the university but the Reveille does not answer to LSU. Last time I checked the editor has complete control over his staff.

Looks like someone applied for a job at the Reveille and got snuffed?

Pretty much. It's a rook move to consider starting a thread about how a newspaper shouldn't report news because it would be detrimental to LSU.

Obviously you don't live in the real world because that shite happens all the time, so stop sucking on your moms tit and use your head before you post third grade material

Boy someone is sure naive! If that is where the money comes from, then yes they do answer to the university on some level. As as for as being the "editor" goes, he is still as student is he not? Don't portray him as a professional, when his is still a student!

Yeah, that would make a lot of sense -- an engineer applying for a job at the reveille! I am actually doing something with my life other than being the scum of the earth. Maybe you should know what you are talking about before you post!

No one said they shouldn't report the news. What the reveille publishes (notice I didn't say report) isn't news. It's tabloid gossip, conjecture, and just plain fiction in many cases.

WTF are you talking about? When did I say I know anything. If you read the whole thread instead of coming in here responding to only one post you might know something ROOK. GFY

from an interview with Nicholas Persac("editor" of the LSU student tabloid):

What is the best piece of journalism advice you have ever received or given?

Tim Konski, my editor at The News Journal in Delaware, where I interned this summer, told me: “We tell stories, and stories are about people. Readers want to know how a story affects them.”

LINK

Notice how he says "We tell stories"....no mention of REPORTING facts!

In the interview, he also refers to his subordinates as writers or staffers. Never any mention of reporters. A reporter by nature reports facts. A writer can put whatever he/she wants their STORY to say.
