Come on guys, this is the way every newsroom in the world works.
...and it is exactly why every newsroom in the world sucks.

Absolutely. If the University was involved in a huge scandal where the chancellor was fricking little boys it would no doubt make LSU look bad, but of course you would print it. Or maybe you wouldn't, maybe you'd join him, eh?

No I wouldnt. I love this place too much. Maybe that is why I am not a reporter. I actually care about this place.

nope

If you have to ask that question, you don't understand the function of a newspaper or the 1st Amendment.

yeah you're right. reporters at the NY Times and Washington Post and WSJ and every other major newspaper must hate America.

I have to ask because you gave no reasoning as to why you said what you did. I understand they can say whatever they want and have an obligation to report news. If you have to say that then you do not understand what I am saying.

Yeah because I said that and all.

that's EXACTLY what you're saying. that it's not possible to care about an institution but at the same time have the balls to expose it's shortcomings. guess some of us are built different than others.

You said it...I really wonder sometimes.
"Investigative reporting" kicks in when the newsies realize that there isn't enough horror and misery in the world to report on/sensationalize (a.k.a. "a slow news day"). They decide that since there isn't enough misery to report on during a given day, it is time to create some misery on their own so that they can have a "scoop" and get their precious ratings.

Yeah...everyone loves someone who goes around "exposing everyone's shortcomings"...

Yeah, that's what the Washington Post did when they exposed Nixon and his fellow scumbags. STFU. you're wrong.

Who gives a shite if everyone loves them. That's not their job. It's reporters job to keep government and institutions in check.

I understand exactly what you are saying.

Basically to me it seems some people would rather be the first to get all the info and beat out big newspapers than have school pride.
News is secondary to school pride
quote:
Why would I want to make us look bad or even give the NCAA more info.
Not looking bad is paramount
quote:
Don't they also have an obligation as a fan to avoid things like this?
1st obligation is to be a fan

No matter how it makes your University look?
Image first
Are those qualities you want in a newspaper?

Wow you are just missing it. I want them to report what happens with the NCAA and how they handle it. I dont want them making shite up and digging to find things that might not be a huge deal to the NCAA. I dont think they should have written the story until they know the consequences and EXACTLY what LSU did. Personally I wouldnt either story, but that is me.

They should because I the people don't love them, they don't read them

They reported exactly what happened. They named Hicks before anyone else did. How is this making shite up. Listen son, I have a masters in journalism and have worked in the newspaper biz for 4 years. You're done.

Oh...here we go. You must have gone to journalism school. If I hear that inane line again I'm going to lose it!
Every agency has its agenda. Fox loves the GOP and hates the DNC, all of the others love the DNC and hate the GOP. They all "keep the government in check" by "exposing shortcomings" (a.k.a. slinging dirt to further their agendas).
Let's not distort it into something noble.
