...for us to wear white in Tiger Stadium this year since we are the road team. This is going to piss some people off.

(40 pages at least)

I sure hope so. That would be great, extra incentive! Like we really needed more!

I don't think Saban would even want to open that can of worms. The last thing you want to do is piss off LSU fans if unnecessary.

if he has, he's wasting his time, brother Scoop. No SEC game in Tiger Stadium will have LSU wearing purple...we save those for the Fresno States and Oregon States of the Nation.

Link?

I find it hard to believe he would stir the pot like that. Not to mention, unless they've changed the rule, LSU has to get permission to wear white. Not the other way around.

saban isn't a dumb man. he's a snake in the grass, but he isn't stupid. no way he would give the LSU teamn or fans bulletin board material like this.

bama if you don't provide a link soon, it may cost you.

When was the last time this happened? I remember Spurrier doing it while at Florida, but can't remember another instance.

kinda like the Dallas Cowboys...home jerseys are white. Some non-conference games at home we wear purple.

Which begs another question for those in-the-know: Appy State at home opener? purple or white?

Purple

No way App State wears all black at 2pm in Death Valley.

are you in-the-know, or are you speculating? i'd hate to give them false confidence based on last year's miracle.

Tradition. We started wearing white in 1958 and went on to win the MNC that year. Then the NCAA changed the rule in '82 requiring home teams to wear dark. DiNardo had the rule changed in '95.

Last year. We choose to wear purple jerseys for some non-conference home games each year. But the last team to force us to wear purple was Oregon State in '04. The last SEC team to do it was Vanderbilt in '96 to piss off Dinardo, where he coached prior to coming to LSU.

Spurrier did not pitition the SEC to wear white at TS.

What he did was not honor LSU's request to wear white at home.

ETA: The rule is for home teams to wear dark. Dinardo did not change the rule. But LSU requests to wear white at home and the visiting team can either honor or deny that request.

I thought he choose to wear white at home instead of their traditional dark jerseys one year as a way of mocking us.

Don't remember him forcing us to wear purple at home.

Yes he did. Prior to '95, it was mandatory for the home team to wear dark jerseys.

Hmmm...I think you're right. Vandy did deny our request. But Spurrier had to have LSU's permission to wear white at home. It's all formality and I can only remember Vandy not allowing it...Someone else stated OSU did as well but I don't recall that.

And for the record, the SEC changed the rule a few years ago that gives the home team the sole discretion on jersey color to avoid these conflicts. There is nothing to petition.

But you're right, it'll be 40 pages.

White Jersey Info

White Jerseys — LSU is notable as one of the few college football teams that wears white jerseys for home games as opposed to their darker jerseys (in their case, purple). Most other NCAA football teams wear their darker jerseys in home games, even though football is one of the few college sports that do not require a specific jersey type for each respective team (unlike college basketball, which requires home teams to wear white or light-colored jerseys while the away team wears their darker jerseys), and is similar to the NFL in letting the home team decide what to wear. Georgia Tech is one of the few exceptions to this rule. The tradition started in 1958, when Coach Paul Dietzel decided that LSU would wear white jerseys for the home games. LSU went on to win the national championship that year. Since then, LSU continued to wear white jerseys at home games. Then in 1982, new NCAA rules prohibited teams from wearing white jerseys at home. Because of this, LSU wore purple jerseys during home games from 1983 to 1994. In 1995, LSU's new coach, Gerry DiNardo, was determined to restore LSU's tradition of white home jerseys. DiNardo personally met with each member of the NCAA Football Rules Committee, lobbying LSU's case. DiNardo was successful, and LSU again began wearing white jerseys at home when the 1995 season began. In LSU's first home game with the white jerseys, unranked LSU prevailed in a 12-6 upset victory over #6 Auburn. In 2000, LSU's new coach, Nick Saban, altered the tradition of the white home jerseys: now LSU only wears white jerseys for the home opener and for home games against SEC opponents. For non-SEC home games other than the home opener, LSU wears purple jerseys at home.

The rule allowing LSU to wear white at home has one exception: the visiting team must agree. On two occasions, LSU was forced to wear their purple jerseys at home. The first time was in 1996 against Vanderbilt, who was still angry at LSU for hiring Gerry DiNardo, who left Vanderbilt to become LSU's head coach after the 1994 season. The second time was in 2004, when Oregon State did not want to wear their black jerseys in Louisiana in late summer.
