Agreed.

That's the same way I see it.

...Maybe a true timeshare with whomever else -- besides Shep -- decides to step up if Rid would go down.

he's a Percy Harvin clone so whatever Harvin was, that's what Shep is.

Can you imagine Shep running "Sally". It would be game over!

Percy had a reliable QB.

I was just saying that the other night. Just put him in the darn backfield. He makes people miss and can hit the holes.

I don't think WR is a natural fit for him. He just needs to get the ball and run.

He needs to get the ball in space, hence why he's a slot receiver. Putting him in at tailback in any traditional sense neutralizes his key advantage.

Oh, he's definitely a WR.

I saw someone post earlier that in Harvins last year at Florida he averaged 8 touches per game.

This sounds logical but in reality they are going to play Shep very tight at the line and they can double him because they don't have to respect TT and RR without a QB that can hit the open receiver downfield.

His key advantage is doing damage with the ball in his hands. What neutralizes his key advantage is inaccurate passes.

And your suggestion is that it makes more sense to put Shepard in at tailback, without a respectable passing game to prevent the defense from selling out against the run?

no way he gets more carries (although I believe he should). miles is a big 10 coach and we have seen him go to the I formation and pound the ball with ridley. we have seen blue (a straight ahead runner) pass up everyone else on the depth chart. miles is going to pound the ball just like he did in previous years with big backs scott and hester.

shep won't get many additional runs and ford/ware either. they don't fit miles' profile.

Traditional... as in what an I formation? No one has mentioned that.

It could be more devastating for a defense especially if a linebacker is responsible for him in coverage out of the backfield.

Oregon doesn't seem to have a problem with finding space for players lined up in the backfield.

I think Shep should be a tail back as well. Similar to Percy Harvin at Florida (he had 194 rushing attempts in three years, he was a RB) and Reggie Bush at USC. Don't make him your go to guy. Let Ridley carry the ball 15 times and Shep carries 8-10 times.
